i was thinking about trying a pendulum sight. anyone have any experience with them? i think buck shoots one. pros cons? how does it work on the ground? what models are best etc? how do you sight it in?

I like the Predator IV, which I setup for max range so it's easy to setup that way. You're 3" high at 20 on the ground though. I think he has a version for 3-D that will work on the ground too.

er,

I think pendilum sights are a waste of money on modern bows. If a bow hits spot on at 20yds on the ground, then shoots the same at 20yds from up a tree, what for is the purpose?

also,

they can be noisey

the pins/dots/whatever tend to be larger than the better pin sights so a certain amount of accuracy is sacrificed.

they contain moving parts which is in direct conflict with the KISS concept.

well i just ordered one. theyre not terrebly expensive so if i dont like it ill got back to the vital bow gear. also just ordered some rage two blades!

The thing that I like about the Pendulum especially with the faster bows, is that with the use of the short range stop I can be spot on +/-1/2" from 5 yards out to 36-37 yards. Which really is the limit of my proficiency and not needing to be concerned about range estimation. As far as noise the Predator IV is silent.

14+ deer with the Pendulum, I wouldn't even think to hunt from a treestand without one.

Now that I think about it though. It depends on the Pendulum sight. A lot of them only get you out to 26 yards or so in which case, the only thing you're really gaining is that it might map out a little better, but then it will be much worse up close where you really need it.

eshore, does the one you ordered have a short range stop?

I never tried the sight you use but it has to be superior to what I've used.

I killed a lot of deer with pendilums back when bows were relatively slow. I just don't see the need anymore.

Here's some of my old ones;

I know the one top left is a Keller and the bottom is a chek it pin sight. The other two, I'm not sure of.

Anyway, below is the one I killed the most deer with and the one I liked best.

It has a lighted pin that glows soft red. It was only good as a pendilum though because the beads get behind the sight at longer ranges.

Have no idea what brand. ::)

You know I had an extra one I could of sent you.

Okay forget the instructions. Push the speed setting all the way down in the slot and push the pin all the way out, so that the end of it is flush. This way if you damage the pin and need to replace it you know exactly where to put it and not have to resight the pendulum.
Then sight your group, a half inch high at 20 yards. Set your short range stop spot on at 10 yards. There's a little rubber stop, to stop the swing of the pendulum, you bring that up at the end to shorten the movement of the pendulum as much as possible. You're done. With your bow you should reach 37-38 yards before dropping off.

I use a large peep to line up with the round sight guard, it's a very accurate setup.
