Yeah, I picked up a few tips. This was one of the few times he was talkin with a box. He seemed to much prefer his slates this trip. He has one that had a higher pitch and the toms were all over themselves answering to it and the graphite striker the first morning. Unfortunately a couple of nimrods came a running too and busted the birds for us.

That's the proble with public land. Maybe a lookout would help when 2 or 3 guys are together.

ahhh, it was just the opening week frenzy and didn't upset us too much. It was kind of funny watching the one guy turn inside out when he approached scDave and didn't realize the boman was right behind him until I stood up and told him to be careful.

I did the same thing to Rick opening day. I got turned around in the woods and herd some toms going off. I began calling to them and they were talking back, Finily Rick called out "I'm down here"! LOL, Boy did I feel bad. He had 4 or 5 jakes standing 15 yards from him and waas playing with them. Man I was looking to blast one LOL

Hey,nothing but da truth, the whole truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The guys are right I do get somewhat over zealous, but hey you got to do something in the woods. Really enjoyed my trip, especially the company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful country, nice properties, think heads-up with white tails may be fun also. Plenty of birds, but not knowing the terrain put quite an obstacle up for me. Oh well, there's still time left in the season and very well may return in a couple of weeks. Freedom, Barb, Bowman, Eastern shore, thanks for it all, wonderful experience!!! scdave449

Yes, crossbows with a disabled permit are legal. they are legal for anything a vertical bow would be used for. I also had a great time, pocomoke state park is nice . next fall i think we should stay at milburn landing, its right on the water. perfect place for a forum hunt for the assteague hunt . 32 campsites and 3 or 4 cabins.

Hey Strut, I believe I pay real close attention to game laws especially when out-of-state. Think most any hunter will do his homework when he is restricted to a horizontal bow, and be legally prepared before entering the woods. Not only did I investigate with DNR in Md., I got registered, licenced, and permited in deer bow season, meeting all criteria for a crossbow in Md. and any other state I had planned to hunt this year. And will do the same in up-coming years if necessary. I have hunted with traditional bows all my life until my shoulder went bad and will not give up my enthusiam for string and stick. Sometimes it is necessary to keep the fire burning by other means. scdave

ps...by the way, with permit, crossbows are legal any-where in SC,including WMA. That,s from DNR headquarters and agents.

Dave sorry pal but per the regulations , crossbows are NOT leagal means for taking wild turkey in SC ! Says so plainly in the regs . Regardless of your legal right to use it instead of a bow for other game, they dont consider it a legal means for turkey hunting in SC so YOU CANT USE IT HERE regardles of your permit!
Read the regs there are no exceptions in SC regs for a crossbow for turkey anymore than there is for using a rifle to hunt turkey in SC .

In MD, you can leagaly use a crossbow to hunt with if it is the lesser weapon in any season. Or you have the disability permit or the time is alloted for it durring the season.
