Their is a guy at Lake Phelps that has cabins for rent. We can stay their if we have a forum hunt. Since its in NC I can go. Alan if you want some company when you go look around just let me know I can go any Saturday before it warms up.

initial thoughts; 100+ miles round trip = possibly $30 in fuel just to go look. aluminum boat and trolling motor for access via canals. My experience around here says any bushhogging, etc, will kill the area for a time and make it murder on boots to walk. Until I look at it, I'd sure hold the heavy equipt back. The myrtles and pines may be up enough to get around underneath ok as it is. Have to get in there and see. It is very close to game lands that can be hunted with a gamelands permit for free but access to where the bears are thick is very difficult or risky. The area is in the best bear hunting area in the state and a really big one is possible but not likely. Bears are very nocturnal, esp the big ones. The first season falls in November and I'm usually either out of state or so broke from going that the trip and time down there is tuff. The 2nd season is close to xmas and may be doable depending on finances, etc. A very lean time of the year for me usually First order of business is to look at the property and see if I consider it a worthwhile venture. This should be done asap before habits change and the snakes come out. Very snakey down that way. I'm going to be working at Lake Phelps real soon and I may be able to look while I'm down that way. Need to know if there is highland access. of note, this is an area where getting turned around and hopelessly lost for days is a very real possibility. It really is way back in the middle of nowhere. Hat, I'll try that number tonight if you're there. Gotta run right now. Irate customer calling.
