I bought a 30x16 above ground pool in March. Being cheap, and mechanicaly inclined I decided to install it myself. Man what a lot of work,I now have a new respect for those guys that do it for a living. I'm about 3/4 of the way done. Its sure going to be nice this summer lounging around the pool:) T.A.

Isnt it amazing how level the ground looks until you actually try and level it . also you look at the area and say "hell i can skim that grass up in no time" yea right, two days later and boatloads of dirt and grass . i've help put up 2 , my dads and my brothers. and i also took down and put up mine, got it for free . they are a lot of work, hate to tell you even after they are up they are some work . keeping the ph and all right and keeping it clean. if you have kids though its worth every bit of time and effort . enjoy

;D One man trying to do a 3man job resembles work don't it? A local roofing crew I know quit roofing and went to installing pools. No better than they roofed, I wonder if their pools leak. I know, the pools can't leak ... but you'd have to know these guys. They'd figure a way. ;D

Trumb, what kind of price are we looking at? I am spending $390 a year for a membership at the local pool I have been a member for 40 years now.

I've got about $1500 tied up in it so far. I bought the frame used, and replaced everything else. Just tough to go to work for 9 or 10 hrs, then work on the pool till dark, but I'm determined to do it and do it right. T.A.

[quote author=Trumbull Archer Just tough to go to work for 9 or 10 hrs, then work on the pool till dark,T.A.[/quote] I think that's why my house has had a nice new roof for a year but the ridgevents haven't been installed yet. sounds like you got a pretty good deal. My neighbor had an above ground pool installed and I think it ran him well over 5k.

Man, sounds like work ! LOL, I think I'll walk down the street to the neighborhood pool. Trumb, sounds like you doing a good job, it would be nice to relax in your own yard with a pool though but I dought the miss's would go for it. The liability in our area is too great.

Its getting there. Tonite I put the new decking all the way around. The good thing is I had 5tons of white limestone dumped off this morning to go around the pool, and my wife moved it all while I was at work;) She did a good job too. T.A.

Trumb, are you putting about 3 applications of Thomson's Water sealer on the wood ? It will help the wood hold up longer.

I used treated 3/4 plywood. That was expensive enough. I spent the last 3 days making the deck very sturdy. I,m ready for the liner now. T.A.

I was surprized when I saw how easy that trex board is to break. It appears to be very durable but I haven't seen it in use for a long enough period of time to have an opinion on it yet. I'd screw that plywood down. Nails tend to back out over time.

I know the treaded ply is good but it will only last about 3 years , if ya take a garden sprayer and apply a few coats of water sealer to it wood both front and back you can pull 15 years out of it. You can wait a year or to befor applying it.

My sister has a above ground soft side pool. Its really great but I hate it when the weather turns bad and we have to help try and get the cover on in 60pmh wind or higher. I almost drowned last summer when the men were all gone at work and I had to go over and help her get the cover on, the wind caught the cover. The cover pulled my top half over the side and in my shock I didn't let go until I had gotten a nice big mouth full of chlorinated water. (It is not a blonde thing its a shock thing lol).
I think if I ever decided to get one I'd keep the cover on whenever it wasn't in use so I didn't have to mess with it I mean this is Nebraska if you don't like the weather stand still for 10 minutes it'll change. Plus its not like we don't have a very economical pool two blocks away with life guards. lol
