dec 27
went out across corkers creek and had a forky chasing a doe. they ran across the road and the fork ran back by itself. i saw why when the doe returned being chased by a good 8 pointer. couldnt get any shots, they just ran like the energizer bunny. almost like a switch things came alive around 4:45 at sundown. that last half hour flies by.

dec 28th got in the woods and climbed in my stand at 6am still dark. at 6:50 i had 2 does come by. if i had known there wasnt going to be anything else go by i woulda took a shot. i took out the bow this morning. this late in the season its very hard to sit all day, had to take a break. heading back there shortly hoping for another chance at the 8. i think i may move the stand slightly towards the trail he came out on. he moves right at dark , or did last night, i need to be almost right on him. he came out at 5:08 last night and 5:15 is last legal time, still pretty nocturnal. afternoon hunt went back and climbed the same tree. i figured better than moving it. the wind was blowing hard all day and lasted till the bitter end. no movement that i know of. no deer seen. the tree was a swaying though .

dec 30 got out to the same treestand about 2:30 . walked on back and was settled in around 3ish. saw a redfox walk the ditchline scaring all the squirrels away about 4 . sometime around 4:45 a doe moved in and kind of hung out around 100 yards just off the edge of the road. kept waiting for more to follow but i didnt see any if they did. i heard a few shot in the distance. i kept waiting up until last available time which was 5:20 yesterday. at 5:16 i dumped the can a few times to see if the doe up the road would move closer and give up a shot. she moved some 20 yards but kept putting her nose to the air. at 5:19 i decided she was only gonna give up a neck shot. i took the 80 yard shot and after the smoke cleared i could see white belly. she dropped on the spot, hunched the hind legs a bit and gave the death bleat. i looked at my watch and it was exactly 5:20 then. she will be good eating tomorrow night up at my brothers house all but the backstrap of coarse.

dec 31 went to get the stand early and decided to climb up and stay a bit. about 9:30 it got pretty breezy, the pine was swaying pretty darn good. i wanted to stay all day but the appetite wouldnt let me. i left around 1 pm as it started to sprinkle. i'll go out back for the last hunt this year.
