Seriously drawing me as a partner this year, probably wasn't optimal. Due to my wife's travel schedule I am looking at only 8 hunts for the balance of October. And since I have such limited outings, those will all pretty much be focused on staging areas off of buck bedding areas. Now taking a buck would not be a problem, hell I could of taken one on Sunday, what complicates it further is that it's going to have to be a big eight or a medium 10 or better for me to pull the trigger this year. Also I am very reluctant to take a doe in these areas during these hunts. It's hard enough to get in and out without tipping your hand, it's pretty much monumental, if you're spending that much time on the ground, field dressing, dragging etc..
I do have a 9 day hunt from November 4th -12th in which my wife has agreed not to travel and during which I will work only 5 mornings, thus allowing me to get 13 hunts in during that 9 day period. That hunt is an earn a buck hunt and so I will be required to knock down does and I know that property extremely well. I should be able to contibute some during that hunt.
One thing for sure though, with such limited opportunities, I am definitely cherishing each hunt. I'll do the best I can for sure. I have never shot better, that's for sure.
Next time out is Sunday, can't wait!!!!

Well I started today at 10:00A.M. By 2:00 I had 3stands setup and a 4th tree prepared. But I still had one setup to do for an east wind, it's the last saddle by the road, they funnel through over there. So I skirt the bottom along the side of the ridge and get to the saddle and am farting around trying to pick the right setup with cover and to cover all I want to cover. I get three sticks up and realize I need to move the sticks to the other side of the stand and I need an extension to setup the hook the trunk is still too big. So I'm moving the sticks over as I go down but hadn't set them and I get to the bottom and I hear movement. Doe group 3-4 50 yards. I keep rotating with them behind the tree, reach around and take the bottom stick off, which I need for my other setups, grab my stand and backpack and got out of there undectected by going down the bottom and straight to the road.
So this is the interesting part. I'm walking along the road back tot he parking lot and not 30 yards south of the parking lot are 2 of the heaviest trails I have seen all day. They're crossing right there and it's real thick in there. Last year it occured to me that we never hunted that area.
Either myself or my hunting partner have to do one evening hunt right in there 50 yards from the road. A south or an east wind. I'll bet that produces.

Well I went back and finished the last setup and of course I pushed at least a dozen deer that were bedded, right along the road. I think it was worth it though, as I now have a 4th setup that I absolutely believe will produce. I carved myself into the adjacent cover of a black cherry tree with shooting lanes out to 30 yards, covering every run through there.
Saturday afternoon no later than 2:00, it begins.
