Hi, my name is Rick and I have been around hunting for as long as i can remeber. I can remember being as young as 5 or 6 and watching my Dad and Uncle Joe butchering deermeat in the fall. It was a special treat if you were asked to man the handle on the grinder. little did I know back then . I grew up in West Virginia for the first 23 years before moving to the Eastern Shore of Maryland. This place is truly a wildlife paradise. I've personally been hunting for just over 31 years except for a brief stint in my late teens . My real passion is deer hunting with a compound the weapon of choice, but I do hunt all seasons. turkeys have also won my heart over during the last few spring seasons. wish I had known they tasted so good earlier. my only regret has been not taking enough pictures, so for all you young hunters , take lots of pictures. anyway enough about me, how long have you been involved with the tradition? Rick S

Well Rick lets see...you started out earlier than I did. In fact I was 18 when I first went hunting. At 13 I had a fiberglass Ben Pearson bow that I would shoot every evening. Broke many cedar shafts! I also got my first shotgun at 13. Shot at targets, cans and occasionally a few crows. But, in my family no one hunted nor did I know anyone that hunted. Then when I married my beautiful wife in 1979 (I was 18 she was 19 and been married now for 26 wonderful years) I was introduced to hunting. You see her family hunted, she had 5 brothers. The first hunt that I went on was squirrel hunting. Did pretty good. Then that same year done some rabbit hunting...OH I LOVE TO HEAR THOSE BEAGLES BARK!!!! It wasn't until 1982 that I was asked if I wanted to go on the deer hunting trip with the fellows. That first year I hunted with a 16 gauge pump with slugs. I saw my first deer. Now can you imagine that, a WV boy seeing his first deer at the age of 21. What's wrong with that picture. Well after that I was hooked and on the next trip to deer camp, which by the way is in Greenbrier Co, WV bordering the Monongahela National Forest, I scored my first deer!! A nice, really nice, even today 6 point buck. After that I have never missed opening day...and I thank God for that. So I have been hunting really 26 years, but only deer hunting 23 years. I hunt with a bow, rifle, muzzleloader, shotgun and just into hunting them with a camera too. I don't get to rabbit hunt much anymore, and that is my fault. I don't have a dog to hunt with, well at least a trained dog. My son has a beagle (a copper nosed beagle), but I think he will run anything. We never worked with him, he was just sort of a pet. I use to hunt squirrels with a dog. I had a very lovely female Norwegien Elkhound. She was the best dog I had ever saw. She never ran a deer and I just loved to watch her hunt. I would watch her more than the trees. But, she died about 10 years ago and I have never replaced her. I would love to have another Norwegien, but I don't know if I would ever feel the same with another. Oh, well enough of me. Great site here!! Keep up the good work! I like the wall paper.

Well, I guess I'll jump in here I'm 29 years old. I currently reside in SC but plan to be back in KY in the next few weeks. (anybody hiring?) I have been hunting and fishing since I was about 8 or 9. I, like a lot of people, gave it up in my late teens, chasin' other game I'm back into the hunting game pretty heavy now. I mainly hunt whitetail, but I do a little turkey hunting. Rick posted my trophy pics in the deer hunting forum here. I'd love to do more but time doesn't always permit that. Alon with hunting, I enjoy knives, flashlights, guns, and tactical gear in general. I also enjoy cars, but this hobby is just too much for my checkbook. Anyhow, glad to be here. Thank guys

A little about me as an artist. I wrote this to a friend so I just copied it into here. .John, I spent 5 years in college for art. But many of the Indians were done before that. One of my instructors was amassed when I showed him a few and asked me where I learned to draw. I told him by looking in a mirror and drawing my eye in detail. Then I spent 2 years in faux finishing schools.
My understanding or how I approached art school was that the masters learned from and Master as an apprentice. So I did the same and stayed at a 2-year school with a painting professor who was the curator at the Corcron gallery in DC. He and I became great friends. Alan Marsh; He once told me in one of my 1st classes with him while we were still life painting, to slow down! My remark to him was, You said we learn by our mistakes, so I figured the faster I go the more I make. He smiled and said; as long as you can rectify your mistakes and see what you did wrong, that is a good trait of a good artist. SO from there He became a very strong advocate and mentor to me.
I have never sought to sell my works but If God see fit to honour me with a audience at the National Indian Museum I will most likely start to sell my works.
I never got into commercialism with my art. I figured if God wanted to make money at it He would lead me in that direction. Maybe if I get excepted into the National Indian Museum things will change for me as far as selling my works.
My parents told me for years I did such nice work and didn't start my Pen & Ink work till I was 23.
Time doesn’t exist when I'm drawing. I am ADHD and all these were done before I started taking med's for it. I would hyper focus on a piece and spend 6 to 10 hours at a sit. Usually one of the Indians would take me between 50 to 60 hours. SO I was done before I knew it. . Negative space only existed to me as a part of the drawing. The neg. space created it's own picture as I drew. Thus giving way to the positive picture, I needed to see the picture in the negative space and as it developed negative space would guide me. I would use the whole paper to draw and putting points and lines at various places, which gave me an over view of the picture.

My name is Dick and you're probably wondering how in the heck a guy from Idaho ended up on eastcoasthunter. Truth is, I can't tell directions. I was headed for Montana. I'm 56 and have been hunting since I was 12, when Idaho allows us to get a license. Before that, I was traipsing along after my dad. Elk are my main target, with a healthy smattering of mulies, ducks, and the occasional antelope when I can draw a tag. Ncboman got me on this board as a moderator for shop talk. I have just enough knowledge about everything to help someone screw up any project. I should know. I've done it myself. I've been married to the same babe for 31 years and we're looking forward to the next 31.

I'm 40 with 3 kids. All girls... Why do you think I like staying in the woods all day?
Hunted often as a kid with my grandfather. Dropped out of the sport when I discovered drugs and alchol.
Thankfully though, that was not the end of the story!
I got back in the woods in 1994 and have taken deer every year since. Got saved shortly after and left the other bad stuff behind with the Lord's help.
Good to be here.

My name is Josh, and young enough to be most of your sons.
I started hunting 3 years back, got a compound the year before for Christmas and was a damned good shot with it if I do say so myself. Over the years, I haven't paid my dues ... that's all starting to change, hours and hours of scouting maps practice are starting to pay off.
My passion is deer hunting on them cold November mornings. It's just me, the wind, and the woods. I've got our area and the deer patterns down pretty good, but the woods never fail to suprise me.

I'm 30 years old. Been hunting and fishing since I was old enough to hold one in my hand. Now I have two kids, a son 2 1/2 and a daughter 3 1/2. Both of which already go with me fishing and hunting, as I did at that age. I am married, both my wife and I are school teachers, (Special Education teachers) that is. We all live in Kentucky on a farm with many acres and I am a gentleman farmer in my spare time with cattle. I eat, sleep, and breathe hunting.

If you ever get the chance to show your work please, please let me know. I collect a lot of Indian work from plates, to dolls to statues all authentically made by members of different tribes. When Doug and I visited South Dakota I fell in love with the many small shops displaying Indian works and getting the chance to watch them work on their masterpieces was an honor I will never forget. Doug is always looking for something special *hint, hint*.
My name is Cherity ( I know, I know my parents hated me...stupid name doesn't fit my personality). I was born in California but spent most of my formative years in small town Nebraska where I met and married my husband (falconissore) though I did have to spend five years shamelessly chasing him down before he finally realized I was no quiter. We have three great kids; Dakota who is 11, Alexis who is 9 and our little miracle OOPSY baby Garrett who is 1 year and 4 months old.
This will be my first year hunting. Well, ok not my first year my first year was back in high school when I went with my father and brother's and was able to shoot my deer but not able to finish it off with a knife (thank goodness for dad's) and those idiots tried to force me to drink its blood .
This will be my first year hunting with someone who is sane. It should be a great adventure for all involved since it is also my son's first year and his father will not only have to teach the both of us how to shoot the gun; but how to hit what we are aiming at, not to mention gun safety and all that other jazz that goes with hunting. But, I'm getting more and more excited the more time I spend on this forum and will admit to being excited about having something in common to talk about with my husband and knowing he will finally understand something I say.
So, who wants to bet I get a bigger deer then him? lmbo that should get a rise out of the poor guy.
