Thanks for the true story. Tremendous buck. I get about two a day of wild stories from different locations about the same deer. Some are hard to trace.

Hunter Downs Record Buck Sunday, December 3, 2006; Page SM14 Bill Crutchfield Jr., a Charles County hunter, downed a record buck Monday near his home in Newburg, officials with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources announced. Staff members of the Maryland Wildlife and Heritage Service and the Natural Resources Police who examined the buck Tuesday confirmed that its antlers had 26 scoreable points (13 per side) and a preliminary antler score of 268 5/8 inches. If approved by national scoring organizations, the buck will surpass the Maryland non-typical record by 40 inches, making it the No. 1 non-typical buck ever taken on the East Coast and ranking it among the top 20 deer in that category in the world. Official confirmation cannot take place until after a "drying" period of at least 60 days. Bob Beyer, associate director for game management at the Department of Natural Resources, preliminarily scored the buck. A deer's antlers are classified as being non-typical when they have uneven or unusual tines, irregular points or outgrowths. Typical antlers are symmetrical and regular in shape. Crutchfield's buck weighed 150 pounds after field dressing, and the antlers had a 22-inch inside spread and massive 25-inch main beams, the DNR said. Last weekend was the opening of the firearms deer season. Hunters unofficially bagged 17,231 deer during the first two days, up slightly from the same period last year. The firearms season continues through Saturday. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/12/02/AR2006120200025.html

Smokes the John Poole Buck by 40 inches! Wow. Usually new record book bucks are just barely bigger than the last.
