Im one proud dad . Me and my son teamed up last Friday morning on this nice tom. He was 19 + lbs 11 1/4 inch beard and 1 1/8 spurs. A solid three or four year old tom. We caught him separated from his hens late in the morning. A little thought and a carefull approach plan through the swamp put us set up undetected 70 yards from him. A few soft yelps followed by ever building cutts brought him to a gobble. He entered the woods 35 yards from us gobbled twice thn walked into 15 yards. My son took him cleanly with the twenty gauge . After five long years of bad luck for the guides son , we finally nailed one. Not just a tom either but a nice one. I was tickled , and its safe to say so was my son. His reply, "this makes everything different". Safe to say we got a new turkey hunter.

Tell the youngan Congrats for me, sounds like you two had to work a bit for his first. more reason to cherish it , his second wont take nearly as long my guess. had to be a good week with your son and Daves son getting their first birds. Rick

Congrats to your son and to you as well. Looks like a nice bird in the picture and your descriptions indicates a very nice bird.
Will be taking my son on his second hunt and hoping to score on this year. Last year was a bust.
Again, congrats to your son.

Being a guides son aint all its cracked up to be. The clients come first and time is really hard to come by . Id say in five years we havent spent 10 days in the turkey woods together so in actual hunt time it wasnt as bad as it seems.
However, it has been a serious thorn in my side and Im happy weve climbed that mountain . I dont have to worry about the second hes already on birds by himself and determined to call to kill his next one by himself. I doubt it will take him till the middle of the week with the sign he just showed me . Hes done his homework , now its time to get the grade by tom.
Back to the lodge in a couple hours , for the last guide of the season then its all video and gunning for me. I got access to a sweet 450 acre tract in WV thats loaded up with toms and has never been turkey hunted. Im thinking WV will make the video if weather permits . Now if we can get one or two smackdowns in Md. , and a finisher with Craig King of Widowmaker calls in NY we'll be ready for the editing table.
