I was told the birds were in this back field in the morning. So I was in befor sun up and I saw a dozen deer 2 or 3 dozen geese. But not one bird I didn't even here a hen. I herd one shot about 400 yards away. Then I called my messages about 7:30 and Manuel said he had to stay home with the kids. O"Chit, I headed in , I wanted to stick around till 9 to see if the birds can came in and what time. Tommorow I am thinking of heading out to the big Island on the river , I know there are allot of birds out there. It only involves me loading the canoe and a 15 min. paddle over to the island. I was thinking about heading out there to roust a bird but the wife said my mom wants us over for dinner and someone needs to take Jake to church and someone needs to attend Jarrods vollyball game at 7. So what I might do is grab my sleeping bag and head over there tomorrow evening. > The island is the last place I hunted bird in the early 80's and the place a good friend shot a nice tom I rousted the night befor out from under me, that's when I stopped hunting turkeys till last year. I have herd allot of toms out there while fishing around the different islands in early morning. So wish me luck. May have to take my pole with me and cook up a cat fish for dinner.

I'd like to walk that island but in Jan the current was too strong to attempt it with the ice chunks and all.

NC, I have flipped a conoe out there in Jan. it's only waist deep for the most part but it is a swift current. I wade it often whhen fishing and there are a few holes over my head. The Island I hunt is 3 miles long and nare a hunter steps foot on it because some of it is posted but it's more tlike the trouble to get there.
