Been a cool season so far and temps have been below normal comparing them to past seasons.
Other than seeing a handfull of toms strut their stuff in the open fields at the crack of dawn, most have been spending their days in the timbers scratching up the fresh leak and beachnut ridges.
I think all that may be about to change this week if it hasn't allready today. The blackflys have turned on like the invasion of the locusts and are swarming by the hundreds. The cool weather has held them off to this point. From past experiences, I think the relief of the open fields will make the birds visit them more often throughout the day. Not to mention all the feed that will be crawling around the fresh manure piles farmers have spread.

Hopefully come the end of the month they will be just going into that dumb as you come phase. I think I got enough of tough to hunt toms in the low country this year.

Bugs carrying weapons bother me the most!!!!!! Thanks to Thermal-cell, most of that problem has been eliminated though. Hey folks, found out that the Holster for the cell will work on your chest, if not running through the woods, yet stalking. Few things have impressed this "ole-man" in todays catalogue of gimmics for the woodsman, than the cell and the enclosed Apache camper, both of which I will have in my arsensal soon.scdave
