well met up with Todd and Brian last night and took them to an excellent spot for birds. we saw maybe 9 birds and a handful of deer. we stayed till after 8 and knew where the birds were gonna roost approx. I told them about where to set up and where i was gonna be.
got there about 5 am and put a deke out. Todd and Brian were supposed to enter from the other side and set up. the birds were going wild gobbling on the roost. i knew they were in for a good time . about 7 am i had a gobbler on the hook coming to my deke. turned out to be 2 jakes and a hen. the one jake i had a bead on at 25 yards but it only had a 6 inch or so beard , an early hatch. i let it walk, only to regret it later. about 8 am the wind began to pick up and i heard a shot from where they were supposed to be.
10 minutes later i had 2 hens walk within 30 feet of me. maybe 5 minutes later a 3rd came by. about 8:30 i heard a second shot from their direction. i figured the hunt was now in my hands to end or continue. i stayed about 1/2 hour more till 9 and started packing up. i soon saw them both coming down the road. score a double for them . Todds bird is a real nicemaybe 21 lb double beard with i'd guess 10 1/2 or 11 inch on 1 and maybe 5 on the other, 1 1/8 striaght sharp spurs. brian shot a 3 inch jake weighing about 16 lbs with nubs, not bad for his very first hunt though .
I wish now i would have taken the jake at 7 would have scored a triple but none the less a very successful hunt indeed
i'll let Todd gave the details ;D make sure you get to taste this one .
Todd , i did forget to mention the guide fees GREAT JOB
