well Erika will be heading out with me in the morning for her first realtime hunt. i have taken her out scouting but never the real deal. i'm hoping the morning produces some action, that way she will get more bit by the bug than she seems to be getting . she wont be shooting just yet as she needs to take the safety course and then shoot some, next year maybe since she is getting big enough to handle a youth 20 gauge i believe. funny though the other day she said something i found very interesting.she said " when i start hunting , i'm gonna use my bow for everything , just like NC " . i hope she does myself , her shooting is coming along pretty well she is at 10 yards now and doing ok. somehow i believe hunting may be genetic lol ;D i'd love to see a morning like last saturday, lots of action and gobbling galore. of coarse i havent heard a gobble in 3 days but have just hunted an hour or so out back daily. wish us luck

well we got up nice and early and since i heard a gobbler roost last night out back we went there. i chose to use a blind so her movement wouldnt be a factor. the gobbler was sounding off to beat the band on roost and we were within 100 yards. once it hit the ground it went silent and worked it way away from us. later around 8:30 we heard it gobble in the back corner. she looked at me and said i think were wasting our time on that bird lol. i agreed. we went to snowhill stopping for breakfast on the way and drove some of the spots just to see who was hunting where. it was around 10 and we only saw 2 trucks parked. we went to where i got my best bird from a few years back and heard a distant gobble but it wouldnt respond. we tried to make our way closer but simply ran out of time. she was surprised at how fast noon came around , a good sign that she had fun . all in all a mediocre day but she was happy and i showed her turkey sign where they were scratching. when we got home she took the dog out in the yard and came running back into tell me the tom out back was gobbling to the neighbors dog bark. i explained the shock gobble to her . she then called Barb in WV and razed her about her getting to hunt before Mom . she asked when we were going to try again . now she wants to go hit the bay since i told her i heard the flounder are biting . gotta get the tackle out and see what needs what done before we can go. i think she enjoyed herself

Sounds like you have a great start on developing a hunting and fishing companion. That sure adds another pleasure to our sports, congratulations.
