How many guys shoot both compound and recurve bows? I shoot both but it's been years since I hunted with a recurve. Just can't make myself sacrifice the range I gain with the compound.

Its been awhile since I shot a recurve. I still have a fiberglass Ben Pearson bow that my mom bought me when I was thirteen years old. I would shoot that thing every evening. Broke many cedar arrows! Now here I am 44 years old and every now and then I pull the thing out and think about getting a new string for it, just for old times sake. Since I started using the compound bow I don't think I could shot a recurve without sites on it. Oh, well that is what technology does for us. We slowly forget the old ways.

Last time I shot a recurve I had to go in for another shoulder surgery. Ouch !

I play around with the recurve, but wouldn't hunt with it,not atleast till I practice regularly with it. Although I grew up hunting with it. T.A.

Glad to see you over here. When I was a teenager I spent countless hours shooting my recurve but now I just don't have the hours to put into it. I still like playing with it but it was more fun when I was fairly good with the thing. ;D

At this point the range and power of the compound offers me the greatest hunting versatility. Like many though I started very yound with a stick bow and then a longbow. I see myself presently at a stage as a hunter where I have certain goals in mind. But eventually I do see myself coming full circle back to the traditional route. However I will not ignore the developments in the traditional arena and will very likely wind up with a reflex/deflex longbow probably in the 62" range, probably pulling around 60lbs. If they weren't so expensive I'd likely own one now. Problem is the one I like starts at 695 smackers.

I had a nice Proline recurve that I found in a hock shop for $5. It was in excellent shape and I used it for a number of years. However, it was too short for me and stacked pretty bad. I finally put it on ebay and got $95 for it. Not a bad profit for a pawn shop special.

I am going to trade one of my compounds for a recurve after turkey season and try it this year. I'll probably start the season witht the compound but would like to stick one with the recurve before season is over.

I shoot a compound and a crossbow, but mostly stick to the compound. Three reasons... First, it's a little more challenge. Second, the season's longer. Third, if I whack MR BIG I want it to be P&Y legal!
