Yeah I wish I knew more about them. I almost bought a Herters a few weeks back, but would really like a reflex/deflex longbow. And they're pricey, even the Martin Savannah on sale about the best I could do is about $340. And for a custom boyer the kind I really like we're talking around $600.
So I've been thinking maybe getting a little educated and try to find a used one. There are indeed some deals out there.
What kind of weight do you guys think? I was thinking 55lbs at 28" and I'll go a little longer than that.

I typed out a great big long response to this one time .
Theres a ton of variables here that makes a blanket answer inaccurrate at best. You've got several things to consider.
1 your true draw length and what poundage the bow is giving at anchor
2 an honest assessment of draw and holding strength keep in mind we arent talking let off here your holding what your buying
3 skill level at shooting if your not skilled heavy draw weights tend to make bad habits
4 whats your real game objective if its whitetails and smaller leaning towards the lower 50's would be my advice.
5 how often do you want to be able to shoot ? if you want to shoot alot dont buy a heavy bow they are hell on your joints .
Most of your 50 lb bows are going to be plenty for whitetail and allow you a reasonable amount of comfort and room to grow into the bow. Starting out heavy is going to make practice sessions short, joints and muscles sore, and as a result bad habits profuse.Whats all that equal, poor proficiency with your bow and I know you wont settle for that.
