One of the issues with the Slick Tricks was the issue of deflection. There were a few reported cases of deflection and while Gary didn't feel that they were that credible, still it was an issue and so that led to a design change. Last year after the design change there were reported cases of ferrule breakage of the 100s. Didn't happen often but when it did it occured at the same spot namely just above the threads. So Gary made some minor design changes and changed the heat treatment of the ferrule to eliminate fracture. I waited here till the new design came out and got to testing a bit. The bow is a 73lb Outback @ 28.5" which was just retuned after a recent cable change. The shots were at 15 yards in 3/4" pressboard. The Slick 100 has pretty much the same geometry as the 125 except for a thinner ferrule
and a shallower shoulder to keep the weight right at 100 grains all the heads I weighed were at 99-100 on a digital scale, very tight tolerances.
The penetration of the Slick 100
was a little better than the 125
I think because of the thinner ferrule.
For deflection I tested at 45 degrees and while there was a small amount of skidding I surprized at the lack of cartwheeling which was much less than the 125s out of my setup.
100:
125(Not the Best Picture):
It took only a small 1/64th adjustment to centershot and the nock point and there were hitting right with the field points(Here at 22.5 yards).
Out to 40 yards I was just detroying nocks and slashing fletching. Really a great flying fixed head. This is a head that makes you want to spend time at 50+ yards.
BTW I'm pushing around 292ft/sec with these heads.
