This was an important term at one time. Does anyone here know the cast of your bow?

Gosh that's a term that's just vaguely familiar. This is a term for traditional bows, something related to the fabrication, which imparts certain characteristics to the bow. But I'm really reaching here in terms of details and might have the whole thing wrong.

It varies. If I'm shoot game, it seems that 50 yds is really stretching it. If I'm stump shooting in sagebrush, 400 yds & well hidden isn't unusual.
Then you get the guys who are into flight shooting. I read somewhere that the record now is over 2000 yds using a foot bow.

i was thinking on the lines of the shape of the bow or the arch of the arrow from a particular bow ie flat versus arched cast .

Is this the same as brace height? Ghads. I remember the term, but not what it means. Guess it's the booze.

Maybe modern usage is different, but traditionally the cast is simply the max distance that a bow will shoot an arrow.

Like I said in my 1st post...
It varies. If I'm shooting game, it seems that 50 yds is really stretching it. If I'm stump shooting in sagebrush, the dang arrow will travel 400 yds & hide.

I,ve honestly never shot my bow to see how far it would go before. i did it with my old bow but it definitely dont have the balls that my Darton has. if i remember right (long time ago) my old bow went maybe close to 200 yards give or take.

There's quite a lot to be learned doing it but I ain't talkin about it yet. I'd like to see some of you guys post the cast of your bow first. I will offer one tip. Shoot at least two different type arrows.

I may have to go out in the big field behind the house and see what the 'cast' is on the old-glory. What's a typical cast? I'd hate to overshoot the field. Guess the range-finder had better come-out for a looksee first. This could be fun... everybody could post their cast & we can see how various bows and draw weights compare!
