I absolutely beleive in the use of 3-D targets as pivitol to proficieny in the field, especially for the treestand hunter. Ever since my 3-d target was discontinued and replacement cores were no longer available, but even before I've been looking for a replacement core substance that will serve that purpose. Up to this point the best that I've come up with is a synthetic clay polymer. However the stopping power was not adequate, requiring that I have a layered target behind it much of the time and it leaves a film on the arrow necessitating constant cleaning. The other day my kids had left some silly putty on the counter. I asked them if it ever dries out? They said no. I was playing around with it and noticed that it does not stick. So up to my hunting room I went and manually placed a fixed head into the silly puttty and was pleasantly surprised that upon withdrawing it that cleanup was a cinch. It is not sticky. The problem was how the hell do you get enough silly putty to fill a core and secondly the material slumps. Well I figured coming up with a solution for the slumping wouldn't be a problem, but coming up with that much silly putty seemed nuts. But I did some research.

Recommended for children over three. According to my wife it would appear that such a solution is right up my alley.
I use clear packing tape to secure it so it does not slump. The stopping power is outstanding, the arrows are easy to pull out and there is nothing to clean, it is non sticky. For field point use this is an excellent solution, every once in a while some fresh packing tape and you're good to go. In a couple of weeks when I get to practising with my buddies I'll have them run their fixed heads into it and well see about those.
$76(shipping is included) is not cheap, but even in the short run is a whole lot cheaper than the replacement cores were running me.
