I've been ponderin about the hunt and am wondering what reaction whitetail bucks have to sika does that are in heat? Also does anyone know of big whitetails killed during this time of year in the Sika areas? I'd like to get Charles' thoughts on it as well but don't know if he reads thru here or not.

NC from what they say, Sika will kill a buck that's why their are few Whitetail in the Sika areas. Charly knows but no one has heard from him for a while.

I have worked with Sitka for many years and the main problem with them and Whitetails is competition for habitat. I have never had a problem with them fighting Whitetail bucks. The closest relative to Sika are Elk and I have not had them show interest in Whitetail does, unless they are in a small pen situation. I have seen Sika breed small elk cows, but never Whitetails. One problem with Sika is the blinding of each other due to the brow tine location. And shape. The other problem on our ranches is that they are more nocturnal than any other deer and this make them hard to hunt. I have done elimination programs on a few ranches and it took intensive night hunting and a good amount of time.
