Yes, its the permit. The permit has to be applied at the site of the kill with the date cut out and signed. You don't want to get caught with an tagged bird. They make a big thump when they hit the ground.

did you shoot it in NC? did you go with a guide or diy, we have been kicking around a NC swan hunt, for a couple years now, but i keep forgeting to put in for the permit until its too late, i wont forget this year.

that is a huge bird ... very cool . never thought much about a swan hunt, sorta thought they were protected for some reason . is it white meat or dark?

The hunt was on my wives family land in northeastern N.C. in Currituck County. It was just me and my sons sitting in ditch between winter wheat fields with six decoys. North Carolina is winter home for the tundra swan. They can be very destructive to winter wheat. The swan eats the whole plant roots and all. NC issues 5,000 permits a year by a draw. Swans are a dark meat.
