Alright here's the story.
We were supposed to go out on tuesday of last week but the charter boat's engine had "blow up" the day before. So we were rescheduled for friday. So we went out friday morning 2 adults and 4 boys for 9-13 years old. Capt. Dave Odom of Edisto Rivers Adventurs took us about 1-2 miles offshore to fish bottom fish. We caught about 40 eating size croakers and whitings. Also we caught about 40 small sharks in the 1-3 lb range. The boys enjoyed catching the sharks the best.My oldest son caught 2 trout that were just a little under the size limit. He didn't like throwing them back. My youngest son,9 years old, caught the most fish and he was letting everyone know it too .
Alright, here's the big fish story.. well a big fish for me..
Dave run a couple of ballon rigs on the back of the boat with small live croakers as bait for bigger sharks,
we had a couple of pick ups with no good strikes until about a hour left in the trip. Then we got a good hook-up, Dave set the hook and handed me the rod. The shark swam at the boat then made a run and then jumped out of the water at 100 yards and then he sprooled the reel but it didn't break off as Dave got the anchor up and back the boat toward the fish. I fought him for about 10-15 minutes and got him up to the boat. Dave got the leader in his hand and was going to graff him when the shark made one last sharp turn of his head and broke the leader off. Oh sh@t!! Oh well it was fun.............
The best part was the evening when we had fresh fish fried by grandma, griddle cakes, fresh corn on the cob and fresh fried potatoes. Both the corn and potatoes came off the farm in northeast NC.
It was a good trip, plenty of fish to keep the kids happy and no one got sea sick although it was abit rough.
