old cartridges capable of? More....than many think! This group was fired with my Browning 1885 HiWall in .45/70 from 800 yds. Fired with no scope; shot with aperture sights that are rear tang mounted! The morning I shot this group I had a wind coming in from the 9 o/clock side and if I had taken a little left windage....I'd venture to say that all these would have wound up in the ten ring plate but since I was only load testing....and seeing what the vertical deviation of the load would be...I just left the windage be and finished the group. pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/mulhernric800/detail?.dir=14c7&.dnm=8e90.jpg&.src=ph

good grief. do you allow time between shots for barrel cooling or do you just load and shoot regardless?

good grief. do you allow time between shots for barrel cooling or do you just load and shoot regardless? ncboman When shooting BPC rifles....it's imperative that the barrel isn't over-heated therefore......a pace is set that allows for NOT OVER-HEATING but I'd say a round can be fired every 30 seconds or so provided one isn't shooting on an overly hot day such as what we experience here in this part of the USA for about 4 months during summer heat! The procedure is to use what's called a Blowtube which is inserted into the chamber after a shot. I make my tube from an empty cartridge casing and it has a piece of hollow surgical tubing afixed to the casehead and after shooting a round, 4-5 blows huffed through the tube from the shooters lungs into the chamber/barrel keeps the BP fouling soft by applying a layer of moisture so as to not impede accuracy. The movies you've seen where the ole boy blows through the barrel wasn't just for show as they to knew that the fouling had to be kept soft for the next round going through the barrel! So.....when using this procedure.....this allows for barrel cooling to a degree and for those shooting competition....time limits are such that one isn't rushed either! ;D ;D
