I took the Javelina 410-cal to the range Sunday for a short shoot.
Yes, I was wearing the pink muffs.
(I also had a 12-ga slug gun to shoot, but won't report on that here.)
First target at 50 yds with No Excuses 410gr conical.
It's a pre-lubed bullet and slightly engraves when pushed in the little piggie's muzzle. MV is 1000 fps with 40gr T7/3F, the pet load of this gun.
I'd shot 25 rounds through a punishing 12-ga slug gun, and about 40 12-ga rounds through a skeet gun first, so my nerves were wearing thin by the time I got some quality time with the beast. Given that, I'm pretty happy with the groups.
Here's the first 50yd target... about 1.75" 5-shot group.
The dot size on the red-dot scope is 4MOA and bigger than this group at 50 yds. I think it's about as good as I can hold and aim with this gun. I think the gun will do better with a better scope and rest. The idea is to be 2" high at 50 yds. Too bad it's shooting right.
Decided to move the sight 8 clicks left, thinking 4 clicks per inch at 100yds.
Oops. I didn't get that right at all.... But not a bad group.
Still N.E. 410gr.
Ok, 4 clicks back to the right...get me here, still at 50 yds. It looks like this red-dot is 1 click per inch at 100yds. Whoda thunkit?
Now to what I really wanted to shoot. The new Hunterman 350gr knurled Keith bullets. The one I was shooting looks like the one on the right...
At this point, not much time left at the range and rushing is not good for accuracy. I shot this 5-shot group at 50 yds with the Hunterman boolets. I was severely punished for rushing shot #4. I felt the gun go off as the sight-picture wobbled left. Bummer. Sorry Hunterman, I'll print you a better one next time!
Ignoring the flier, it's about a 1.75" group.
Felt recoil is lower with the 350gr slug. I'd like to go up to 55gr T7/3F to get about 1200 fps. This would give me a pretty good trajectory out to 75-100yds or so.
Next time at the range I'll hopefully have more time and take the chrony. I've also got a bunch of other Hunterman boolet types to try...
To be continued!
