Here are a couple elk hunting photos that I've taken in past years. Thought you'd like to see some country where they hang out. It's time to get in the mood. This area is about 90 miles from home. There are some nice mulies in there, too. Dick

i am gonna switch gears for 2007 and apply for mt goat, i was gonna apply in either unit 51 or unit 18, i have read these are good units, what do you think about them? what other units should i consider?

I haven't hunted either of those units, but I've been in 51. Here are a couple of photos of what it looks like, at least the Lost River Range part. 51 is on the back side of this ridge. There are flatter places, but the goats like vertical stuff. The 2d photo is Borah Peak (the one in the clouds). It's Idaho's high point at 12,660'. There are a whole lot of bumps in there that are 11K or higher. It's goat county. Dick PS: Did I mention that if you plan to apply for a tag next year, you'd best be getting in shape last year?

These aren't my photos, but they'll give you an idea of what unit 18 looks like. You can find a lot more info on the web by googling 'hells canyon idaho' and 'seven devils idaho'. It's over a mile deep, definitely goat country. There are sheep in there, too, but a disease has greatly reduced the numbers in the last 5 or 10 years. Dick

thanks for the info! i have a landscape business in which i'm the only employee, so needless to say, i do all the work myself. this helps keep me in shape pretty much all year.
what about moose units, i havent made up my mind, but i will try for either moose or goat. for moose i was thinking unit 6 or unit 10.

I don't know about the northern units for moose. I got mine several years ago in 62, within a mile or two of Yellowstone. However, I've heard that the bears and wolves have really knocked the moose numbers in that area (seems that they don't stay in the park like we were told they would). 65 is supposed to be pretty good, from what I've heard. Check the IDFG website for last year's harvest results and drawing odds to get a better idea of how the numbers are. fishandgame.idaho.gov/Dick

where do they grow the potatos? They just grow them on those sidehills. When they dig 'em, the taters just roll to market. ;D Dick
