Well it's time to cut the grass for the first time this year and I don't think my old mower will last thru the summer. I hit a root with it last year and it developed a distinctive knock after that. I thought at the time I'd do good to get it thru last year.
I have so many trees, shrubs, etc in my yard a riding mower is a waste of time so I've been using self propelled hand mowers for years. I like the ones with big back wheels because of the somewhat sandy land I'm on.
Well wouldn't you know the bldg supply I do most of my business with has just what I want out on display for close to $300. I haven't talked to the owner yet to see about a discount but he ought to give me one for free. ;D

Mulchers are great...if you keep the grass mowed. They're terrible if it's too tall. They just clog up the works. I like a side discharge myself. I had a Yardman that was great. It gave you a choice of side discharge, mulcher, or rear bagger just by swapping 2 discharge chute covers. It was also available with the high wheels. I used that one for 10 years before it wore out. I have one now that my father gave me and it's a POS rear bagger. I either have to use the bag, which is a pain in the neck, or tie the gate open and let it blow on my feet.

NC, I end up having to buy a new mower about every 3rd year. But I don't mind as long as one of the boys do the mowing. LOL
