Since the house is so crowded, running my business from it, I've been wanting to build an outside office for some time now just to get the file cabinets and paperwork out of here if nothing else.
I thought I'd use pole construction for it but I've been looking at the nice portable buildings Stateline Builders makes and changed my plans.

I was over there yesterday after they had closed so I looked around at the different buildings they have and decided to copy one of theirs, with some alterations of course. I thought about just buying one out and out since it's hard to build one myself that cheap but I have a tax problem of sorts if I do that. The biz could buy it and write it off but I can't charge rent if I do that. By building it myself I can charge rent and come out better in the long run I think.
Anyway I took some measurements and pics of the building I like for reference and I'm in the process of breaking down all the materials needed. Since I'm going this route, I figure I can partitian the bldg and make a bowshop/hunting room with part of it and relieve even more of the crowding in here.
The one I like is an EXTRA HIGH WALL DUTCH BARN
but the one I looked at has 7' stud walls instead of the normal 6'. It's also on 16" centers instead of 24. The dutch side top is only 2' of steep and I'll change that to 4' for more room up top.
Here's that area.
Here's some more pics of how it's put together showing the loft up top.
They only use single 2x4s for the headers around the windows but I can change all that easy enough ... if I decide to go with windows at all. Probably be more secure without them.
If I can stop procastinating about it and get the materials all here, it shouldn't be such a big job to build.
