Want to get one for the boat. Most of the water I fish is shallow, less than 20ft.

only thing i know about them is they cost too dang much . i suspect Todd has been around 1 or 2 and might be of some help.

They're cheap for what they do, I think. I use to fish a lot with a guy that had a flasher and I learned to read bottom types fairly well from it. That was before these viewing screens though. LOL I posted this on several sites and the replys are typical internet fodder. One guys says an elcheapo will do what I want. Another guys tells me to drop five hundred bucks and buy the bomb. ;D ps, the site's doin it again, ie, rejecting my post. one more time.

I think you can get a pretty decent unit for $100 to $150. We've got one on our boat in that price-range, and it serves us just fine.

well, I've been doin some reading about these devices and it appears not all depth finders are equal. Many of the less expensive ones might be better named temporary depth finders. With my newfound knowledge, my entire take on these things has changed considerably.
