one of the best changes the dnr made, was extending squirrel season to the end of feb, this gives us a chance to beat the feb blues, and whack some treerats. i am looking foward to making some buffaloed squirrel legs. mmmmm dont forget crow season is in until march 15 also, still plenty of hunting to be done, dont packed away your stuff just yet.

Amen to that! I wrote a letter to DNR every year asking them to extend squirrel season,as they themselves claim it's an underutilized resource. When I was a kid,it was 1 week of deer then the rest of the fal/winter after small game. Now deer season is LONG.Now,if they'd just give us a two week break betwen firearms and late ML.Better chance for weather, and most kids are out of school then,so we could get more youth participation. Don't forget we've still got some waterfowlin' left as well.

just make sure theyre not delmarva fox squirrels. heres a pic: www.dnr.state.md.us/naturalresource/fall2002/squirrel.html some guy i met shot one with his bow. he honestly didnt know thats what he was shooting till a certain outfitter told him. he just thought it was a regular squirrel that was really big and pissing him off. it says in the article that you cant mistake them. this guy i met said that is bs! there must be a good population of them at this outfitter cause he said it wasnt the first person that had done it. the guy did however tell me that he skinned it, quartered it, battered it in cajun fish batter and deep fried it. said it was great.

come on now, anybody thats done any squirrel hunting for any length of time, can not mistake a delmarva fox for a grey. they are three times larger. now i could see a city slicker, who has only been on guided hunts all his life doing that maybe.

"hey finally a squirrel big enough to shoot" .

i didnt mean to offend anybody!!!
i can just tell you this, i have been hunting grey squirrels in maryland all my life, i am 35 now, and i have seen dozens of delmarva fox squirrels while hunting, and there is no way i could mistake a delmarva for a grey.
i guess if you were new to hunting, it could be an easy mistake, i personally think it would be the outfitters responsibilty to make any hunters aware of what animals are off limits.

I do admit the fox squirrel is more silver than grey and once i knew what they were its easy to tell them apart. the dfs is small still compared to the squirrels i was used to hunting. i've seen a few giant reds too. i always thought they were the prettiest. i never saw a black squirrel until i moved down here, i'd love to get one of them and get it mounted. i haven't hunted squirrels in years but sure could thin the herd of them i have around the house here . i see 12 or so at a time just in my yard. little pineys ;D

aro, im just kidd......the guy said he was just kidding. no offense taken. i think he was just messin with ya. ever wonder why theres a limmit? is there a shortage of grey squirrel. funny how some parts of the state you could legally kill 1000 does but only 6 squirrels. we wouldnt want anything to happen to our population of wood rats.

The woods of my hunting cabin in Marengo,Ohio is infested with monster huge fox squirrells. We shoot em with .22 shorts in our rifles and full camo to boot! These guys are trophys and a meal too! My property here in New Jersey doesnt have fox squirrells but we do have black, white and gray squirrells. I have shot two grays this year with my bow. But missed a ton and lost a dozen or so arrows.
