Hey all..I recognize most of your names from the other forums we are in..anyway I found a new way to control the rats in and around the chicken coops..We threw a bunch of corn on the ground and withen minuites the rats came out one or two at a time..After missing a bunch and getting the aim right on my new to me recurve I just got from my uncle..I have been now successfully shooting rats with a recurve ,and no sights, with handmade arrows and feild points. They are fast but if you time the lead right you can smoke em...

good luck. If I see a rat I pull out all the stops to nip em in the bud. I had em eat my sawtooth oak seedlings one winter while I was just playin around killin em and I won't let that happen again.

Sounds like great practice. And entertaining.Heck,I used to throw the highbeams on a dumpster,in the middle of the night, from my '68 Chevelle, until the rats got nervous. Then, when they broke for cover,I'd try to lay a L60 on them! Ought to be an Olympic sport.

little update: we had a bunch of rain the other night and it flooded the holes the rats live in..we went out with pig lights on our bows and smoked more then two dozen between three of us. we have 6 foot step ladders around the coop and we sit on top of them and the rats come out from under the chicken coops ..my brother had a sheritan .22 caliber air rifle and he seriously thinned the population. Rats are weird..they eat each other as soon as one gets hit the others eat it..ewwwww! My grandfather has put alot of poisen under the houses the past few days and I`m sure the rat hunting is over for awhile but it was REAL small game!also..mother nature has an incredible way of utilizing everything..we put the dead rats in a huge drum after we`re done hunting and come morning the cats will have eaten them all everytime:) feeding the kittens!
