Where I taking this too is, have you been or are you up to hunting the out back areas with just your packs? Doing your own cooking, canoeing in, walking in, horse packing in, have you done this kind of a hunt ? Would you want to do a hunt? dealing with any of the above?

would be kind of fun, can be a bit taxing though..not as young as i once was, and who hash can only be good so many times in a row. i guess dehydrated or pouch food would be the way to go and eliminate some weight.

While the idea has a certain romance to it, it's just not my up of tea. I think it would take 5 mules to pack in just my supply of Pepsi and smokes. ;D and then how would I feed the mules? I did spend well over a month sleeping in my truck this past fall though. ;D

Hey, roughing it is; Motel Six that is , no room service.Highly suggested, check into all camping facilities before planning your trips. Most all campsites now list all their amenities for the public. The listings are necessary to plan a reasonable trip, not to hectic nor uncomfortable. All this info. can make a good bit of difference: time friendly, some comfort, location friendly, easy time management, all in all down-right good over all trip. The forum hunt for turkeys this spring was a perfect example. Well managed freedom!!!!!!! Once again, much thanks, great trip. This internet info source can put a world of info at your touch, and plenty of people willing to help you find what you're looking for. Thanks one more time, scdave.

Last night was very enjoyable untill I went to get the flash light which Jake was playing with and I found out it was dead. I was working my way up through the break on the river to my camping area in the dark. Set up in the dark. Once all was done I was very relaxed. I was able to Listen to the river sounds and animals moving around geese, owls and what ever else gave me a renewed omniscient of my surroundings.

You only carried one flashlight? har har ;D I always camp with two on me and that don't count the ones I keep secret. In the woods this time of year at night and no light? I'd be in the top of a tree with the turkeys. ;D

I didn't think I would realy need one, But things change and I needed to move from where I was. I'm glad I know the rive like the back on my hand, except I haven't been out there for a year or 2 or 3 and things change.

I would not be especially interested in backpacking, but a canoe camp into a remote area would be very much of interest. I did a lot of canoe camping as a teen able to put my canoe in the bayou across the street from the house. Their weight capacity allows a good stock of gear and food that creates comfort, plus hauling a deer out would be a whole lot easier.
Three years ago my buddy and I decided on a lark to leave tents at home during a deer hunt and simply pitch a tarp leanto with a large fire in front also leaving behind the Coleman lanterns and stoves as we did as kids. Though we traveled by trucks once at camp it could have been 1900. Despite temperatures in the upper 20s at night we were toasty by the fire with the leanto behind us. Cooking over the fire the steaks and coffee were great.
Carrying flashlights we seldom resorted to them with the fire light and kerosene lantern serving well. Yep would love a good canoe camp into a backcountry deer hunt.
