If I buy a camper in another state and it isn't licensed, how do I go about bring it home legally?

first off is there a title? if the state doesnt title the vehicle like jersey did then the registration card is the title. you should get a bill of sale stating what the purchase price was signed by both parties ( you will need this in nc to prove what you paid for tax purposes. next you should take proof of insurance, with a camper your car insurance card will work. you should be able to apply for a temporary tag for the camper from pa for minimal cash ussually 15 or 20 bucks, jersey was 15. i was lucky and the owner went with me to the dmv. ask him how close the local office is located and if he can come with you to make sure things go smooth. i went on a day they stayed open late just in case things got complicated. i would call the dmv and find out all the particulars ahead of time. i looked on the pa dmv site but found little info on campers . they do have temp tags , anyway here is one link www.dot4.state.pa.us/pdotforms/fact_sheets/fs-buysell.pdf here is the dmv site maybe you can do better with it www.dot4.state.pa.us/home/index.shtmltypical bill of sale www.dmv.org/bill-of-sale.php

Well I don't know how it is in your state, but here in WV we go to the State Police Headquarters in our county or the county where the camper is at and get what is called a one way permit. You take the title, if you just bought it and possibly a bill of sale and show that to the State Police and they will issue you a one way trip ticket. This is then taped to the vehicle, camper, boat trailer, etc and you can drive it or tow it. I do believe it has to be towed during daylight hours. Again that is how it is done in WV don't know about your state but should be something like that.

a title makes things lots easier, bill of sale is on the back, should be easy to get a temporary tag , i would call and ask someone at the dmv you plan on visiting.

I assume you mean a camper trailer and not a pickup camper. Just contact the local sheriff where you buy it. Every state will issue a temporary permit, usually good for about 3 to 5 days.

I think I should bid on that. Let's see, $1500 for the camper, $2300 for gas to drive from ID to PA to get it, $2500 for gas to drive from PA to ID pulling it.....
That looks like a very good rig if you can get it. I've used a camper a lot the last 5 years and got spoiled. When I go hunting, I like to spend my time hunting, not setting up camp. It's nice to be able to pull into a spot and be home within a few minutes, particularly at 11 PM on a rainy night.
