We made it back.Whew 1200 miles in two days.I'am tired. We repacked the bearings and put the new wheels on it.We also had to rig trailer lights on the back of the camper because the lights on the camper were in bad shape.
Rick,I don't know what they normally look like when they have been sitting, but this one has alot of RUST.I don't think the stove is going top make it.the top is all rust.I will work on it some tomorrow. The floor did seem solid. The bed ends are in bad shape. The top that I believe is suppose to be connected to the end with the window is broke loose on both bed ends.Oh well we knew it was a project.
I will tackle getting the top clean and go from there.

some are rough when started lol. to clean any of the top and the plastic inside and out i initially use bleach , dish soap and water . half to 1 cup of bleach and a few squirts of dawn and wash it you will be amazed . where is the rust? inside or under the frame. the frame is easy and i have found a fantastic paint that even i can make look good . it only comes in limited colors because it is an appliance enamel . send me some good pictures of the inside and out wheere the rust is etc. a couple 60 hours of your time and youll be in tiptop shape lol.

Sorry Rick I have been away from the computer for a few days.
Like you said the frame is rusted. It looks pitted though and not flaking. The roof supports going across the ceiling have rust on them. They are painted white but have alot of rust. The stove top is rusted but proably can be sanded down and repainted.
The bedends are broke I suppose that is the Living hinge you talk about and even the sideflaps that have the white plastic hinge that slides up in side of them on the bottomside,I guess you would call it a hinge, that lets them fold down are broke.I will try to send you some pics when I get them.
The vent on top is letting water run straight in.I guess I need to replace the fan and then seal the hood with some form of caulk?Have you used Silicone or do you recommend something better.I really need to get that fixed because that is my biggest leak right now.I saw where someone on the Apache site used plumbers putty but it seems like a plyable caulk would work better.
The Taillights and sidelights are rough.I had taken a set of trailer lights with me to hook up.One of the taillight brackets are rusted and where the bulb goes in is rusted.i believ I can replace that bulb holder and sand down the rust on the plate.I will need two new taillight lens. One was gone and the other one has holes.Have you found any of those around locally?
Well that is enough for now.I have given you enough problems to thnk about.I don't think I have any more problems on this one though than what most people face on restoring one that has been out of circulation for a while.Give me a list of tips and time saving repairs if you have time.
I did get the roof and sides good and clean. And I may have someone that wants to buy one of your refurbished units.Someone I go to church with really liked mine.He said he likes older things, guns bows, fishing equip.etc and said he was going to check the Apaches out.I gave him the website and told him about you.
Thanks for your help.I will be eading up on the Apache website on fixes and repairs also,But when can I find the time?Lol

ok let me try this lol. after a long weekend my brains are like scrambeled eggs . frame can be taken care of via wire brush and a nice heavy coat of car undercoating. 5 hours or less the roof supports have to be sanded and spray painted with rustoleum appliance white if your looking for a top notch job. the wood ceiling panels (?) with house paint semi gloss . the stovetop has to be sanded and repainted with the appliance paint. the bedends and the sideflaps can be fixed with the living hinge from apache parts 810-664-9961. tell them you need new living hinge, 32 feet will do all the bottoms, you will need an additional 14 feet to do along the top of the bedend where the parts hinge together. it is like 2.75 a foot which adds up . the roof vent , is it a power vent and does it work. clean it all up and clean the roof vent up. i use silicone 2 from ge . i ussually dont care as much about looks here as i do a good seal. leave a place in the seal for water to weep out towards the back of the trailer, i left around 4 inches . you need to do the roof rods too. fix the leaks as best as possible for now and order the living hinge when you can , that is your first step.

Rick,I plugged in the power cord from the camper and nothing inside came on.I did have 110 at the power converter two outlets. The fan does have a pull chain and it did not come on so I assumed it was bad.Neither one of the lights work but they could just be bad bulbs or the wires are loose.I haven't got to check them yet.
The living hinges are different at the top of the bed ends than what is on the sides for the flaps aren't they? The hinge at the top of my bedends are made of some hard plastic and the sde flaps at the bottom are a white piece that is rounds and fits up in the bottom of the side flaps.I could slide the round part out but there was nothing else attached to the bedend itself.

did you plug in the connection that goes from the side wall to the ceiling? without that connected the lights and fan wont work. i will have to check and see if they are different hinges. the one on the bottom is only half of the hinge. the white plastic should be in both parts of the slide bed ends. the new living hinge is cloth. i will take a picture of mine tomorrow.

No I didn't.I completely missed that one.Is that the two wire connector I saw sticking out from behind a curtain?I thought that was a homemade job.I will try it tonight.
If the fan still doesnt work, have you found a good replacement at Home Depot?

that is the last thing you do when putting it up and the first thing when taking down. you dont want to forget and break the connector. i'm sure the fan will run once you connect it . check for wasp nests in the vent , they seem to like it there. the fans are ussually 2 speed fans . they turn off between speeds . i have looked at vents but 12 volt power vents arent cheap at all. mine actually went out this weekend for some reason figures as soon as i use my backup in the one i'm selling lol.

I got the plug plugged in and my lights work and the fan motor came on but no air.So I take the grill off and just like you said it was full of wasp nests. One of the nests still had live wasps on it.Thank God I checked it at night when they weren't too eager to come after me.I will have to get some spray to put up in there.I even had my finger up in there removing stuff hanging from the fan.Whew close one.

I run into a lot of wasp nest roofing and if the nest isn't too big, I just upset em and swat em down with my cap. I don't have time to go chase after spray and possibly stain up the customer's house every time I run into a nest so I just do battle with em if they're in my way. Haven't got stung in a long long time. They're kinda stupid really. I just never considered swatting them all before until they got in the way of my work. Also it's kind of interesting just how much work you can do around a nest and not upset em.

i suspected wasps and i kinda figured you hadnt plugged in the ceiling . dont feel bad it happens to all of us. wait till you trip the circuit on the converter and you look at everything but the little button to push and reset , of coarse you only figure this out after thinking everything has gone to hell .
