Well the opening of Ohio archery season is 2 weeks away!Just to update everyone on what kept me from posting alot. I spent the spring and summer shooting competitive archery,at first it was just to stay in shooting shape, but I found I really liked winning, and decided to see how many I could win. Started out slow but ended the year with 14, 1st 9, 2nd and 13 3rd place finishes locally. The high light of the year was 1st place at the North coast challenge,in Erie PA. This also qualified me for the IBO World Championships, where I finished 29th,not bad.but I can do better.(on a side note i won $200 for 29th) My last shoot was the Fin Feather and Fur Shootout in Ashland Ohio, where I took 3rd.I plan on stepping up my shooting next year,as I really want a Championship(World or State)next year. But anyway I have switched modes to hunting,My bow is sighted in for broadheads. I feel out to 45yrd I will be deadly acurate, and confident of good clean kills. I hope to log as many or more deer than I seen last year.I have 2 new private farms to hunt and plan on spending quite alot of time in the trees this year, and we'll see what happens. Heres wishing everyone a good and safe season. T.A.

Saturday Sept. 30th opened cold and to a steady rain. I went to my property in SE Ohio to a new ladder stand I set up bout a month ago. On the way in at daylight I walked up on a doe,she was only 20yrd away, but standing in some brush, thought about a shot but decided it was to risky. Got into my stand and settled in for the morning.Had 3 does come behind me at 9:30 at 25 yrd but couldn't get them to stop. Total for the day 5 does T.A

Tuesday Oct 3rd Decided to try some public lands near home that I had filmed a couple of nice bucks in early in the summer. Set up on the south end of a corn field with the wind blowing into my face looking into the woods. I was in the woods about 30 yrd,but it was nearly 80 and I saw nothing but mosquitos. I think the temps kept the deer nocturnal. The weather is supposed to cool this weekend and I'm hopefull of filling a doe tag. T.A.

Well its been incredibly slow this year. I have been out 4 more times scince my last post and had seen nothing till last evening, when I had 3 does come into my setup, unfortunatly they came from my right rear, and in my summit climber thats the only place that I can not draw my bow from. Had to watch them circle behind and stay out of any lanes I had set up. But at least I seen deer after 2 weeks of nothing. Season total so far 8 does. T.A.

Went out all day Saturday, and once again I seen nothing till just about dark, when a doe circled behind me to far for a shot. Went out Monday and because I've been bumping deer as I enter the woods before daylight, I waited till 10am to go to my stand, prepared for a long sit in some of the coldest weather we've had yet this year. Flurries and wind. Sat I'm my stand from 10:30 till after dark. Right at 6:10 I caught motion on one of the trails that intersect in front of me, it was a doe,but she was in no hurry to get any where. Finally she committed and chose the high trail which would put her 25yrd from me. Everything went well except I MISSED! She dropped under my arrow!I finished 29th at thw IBO worlds and 3rd in the state and missed a 25yd shot. Oh well she didn't spook bad so the spot should still be productive at some point this season. Add 2 more does. T.A.

Stayed close to home this evening after work. Went to the farm again for just the 4th time this year. I did see a doe,but she passed quickly and at 40 yrds. Things are starting to pick up now. Starting to see scrapes and a few rubs, and only a few more days till vacation. T.A.

Went my longest streak of not hunting, 5 days. Got out on the 31st, for a few hours. Steady rain all evening, but I did get to see the doe I missed. She stayed out of range. Wednesday was the best day in the woods so far. Only had about an hour of daylight, but decided an hour was better then nothing.Nearly ran to the nearest stand at the farm. We just put this stand up Sunday afternoon. Got in and settled, and went right to some soft rattling and grunting. Sure enough a small 1 1/2 yr old 5pt came right in and hung around for most of the time I was there. He gave me multiple shots, but I had no intention of shooting such a small buck, only got 1 buck tag and 10 days off starting Saturday. Also kinda thought that a booner might follow this little guy in after he saw it was safe, and sure enough thats what happened, except he didn't come into shooting range till it was so dark I couldn't take a shot. Never really got a good look at him, but didn't spook him at all. Hopefully he'll be back. Add 2 bucks to the total a 5pt and an unknown big boy. T.A.

Man what tough week I had. was off from 11/4 to 11/13. On 11/5 had a monster 8pt come up hill into my kill zone, wasn't positive of the yardage where the buck had stopped,so decided to try to get my range finder out. The buck caught some movement and bounded back down hill. I got the range finder out and ranged the area where he was standing, 35 yrd.Bout 1/2hr later the buck came back up the same trail! I had plenty of time to get set,I even stood up in my climber to get the best possible shooting position. The buck stopped inside the 35yrd mark. I put my 30yrd pin on the bucks chest, released the arrow. My string hit my sleeve, which is highly unusual for me. The arrow passed just underneath the bucks chest,so close that there was a ton of white hair all over the area. I thought that I had a good hit till I went to look at the spot and retrieve my arrow,no blood what so ever.I feel to my knees and almost cry-ed like a girl.Thats 2 deer I missed within a week! I don't know why I'm missing shots like this. I shoot all year, finished 29th at the worlds and took 3rd in the state. Wednesday 11/8, Decided not to hunt the stand I had the 2 misses from. Hunted one of my permanent stands on the other side of the hill.Nothing till 2:30,then a nice doe came thru. Now at this time of the season I normally won't shot does, buck she was alone and nothing was following her,so I decided to try to get my confidence back. Took a good 20yrd shot at a broadside standing doe.I hit her right where I was aiming. She took off down hill into the thicket making quite a racket, actually heard her crashing threw the trees. Got down 1/2hr later to inspect the area. My arrow was covered in frothy blood. good hit, complete pass thru. Started blood trailing, thinking she shouldn't be far. WRONG, I trailed her for 2 hrs till I ran out of light. Marked the last blood with the bloody arrow and left the woods. Came back the next day after the morning hunt and picked up the trail, but still no deer, started making circles around the last blood, still no deer,at near dark I gave up. Went back Friday and did the search again, still no deer. Now my confidence is completely shattered. 0 for 3 and vacation is over, my best chance is gone. Going to shoot in the back yard after work this week in full gear, maybe I'm doing something wrong sub-consciously. T.A.
