October 21st (Before daylight savings time change)
Weather: Wind West/South West, 5-10 mph, calm at times Low 50's, Partly Cloudy. Rain at times.
Got in the stand in Spencer @ 3:30 p.m.
Heard a hoot owl east of the stand, saw 8 squirrels total, got a glimpse of a deer right about dark that must have been bedded down 60 yds south of me in the thick brush. Couldn't tell what it was. No sign of any rubs or scrapes yet. Corn is still up by the woodline, then a clover field, then soybeans.

October 22nd (Before daylight savings time change)
Weather: Wind West, 5-10 mph, calm at times Low 50's, Cloudy and Overcast. Steady Rain.
Got in the stand in Spencer @ 7:45 a.m.
8:10 a.m. Heard something dropping out of a big hickory tree 10 yds to the east, looked up and saw a racoon decending down into the fork of the tree about 35 feet up. It nestled in for a nap.
8:35 a.m. Two medium size doe come slowly walking through to the south about 50yds. away, walking west to east and went on their way.
8:55 a.m. A big mature doe comes walking slowly through to the south 25 yds. away followed by the smallest deer I have ever seen while hunting. The small deer couldn't have weighed 30 lbs soaking wet. The big doe stepped into my 2 o'clock shooting lane giving me a good broadside shot but looking at the little one right behind her I elected to pass on her.
Stopped raining about 9:30. Got down and left at 12:00
Got back in the stand around 3:00. Racoon still sleeping in the fork of the tree. A squirrel started climbing up the stand about 4:00, got about the 4th rung until he saw me and took off. Started raining off and on until sunset.
Squirrels are abundant, saw 9 total
No rubs or scrapes yet. Corn is still up.

October 29th (After daylight savings time change)
Weather: Wind West, 5-10 mph, calm at times Low 50's, Clear sky.
Got in the stand in Spencer @ 6:45 a.m.
7:24 a.m. Saw a deer about 70yds south west of me coming my way. It's a buck, but a small one. Walked right into both 9 and 11 o'clock shooting lanes offering multiple shots but it was a small 6 point about 1-1/2 yrs old. He lingered around for about 10 minutes or so then walked east.
Noticed a tree all rubbed up 20 yds south of the stand right beside my 2 o'clock shooting lane. I trimmed a few branches off this tree just 2 weeks ago.?.?
7:45 a.m. The corn field is cut down, all but about a 30 ft wide section right down the middle, the entire length of the field. Noticed just past the cornfield in the clover field some deer were running around about 300 yds from the stand. 2 deer, no 3 deer, wait there's a 4th deer and it seems to be the one chasing the other ones around. They start heading east to the end of the cornfiield and skirt the woods right over to the new path that was cut earlier this year. There about 60 yds and closing....50 yds. there not stopping. Trotting just on the other side of the trail 25 yds to my west. 3 doe and a small 4 point chasing them with his nose to the ground. I heard the doe making some grunting noises.
Saw 11 squirrels, 2 of which tried to get in the stand with me again.
Great day in the woods. Left at 11:30.

November 2nd (After daylight savings time change)
Weather: Wind West, 5-10 mph. Upper 30's, Overcast. Heavy Frost. Possible snow flurries this afternoon.
Time 7:15 a.m. Driving to work not far from the house I saw a Real nice 10 point buck (possible 150 class) and a mature doe grazing in a clover field about 100 yds off the road. Normally I'll see deer in this field every morning, but only doe or maybe a button buck in the mix. I stopped to get a real good look and they just stood there looking at me for several minutes. I took off slowly and looked back and they went back to grazing without a care in the world. Just wanted to add this for future reference as to the date I saw the first big buck of the season in daylight hours.

Got in the stand in Spencer @ 6:45 a.m.
7:15 a.m. Saw 1 doe walking west to east along the edge of the cornfield 60 yds south of me. She walked into the woods and out of sight. Medium size.
9:45 a.m. Saw 1 doe (possibly the same one as earlier) walk out into the edge of the cornfield, walk east to west and come in the woods on the new path. She walked right into my 3 o'clock shooting lane. She wasn't that big so I passed on her.

November 5th (After daylight savings time change)
Weather: Wind East, 0-5 mph, calm Low 30's, Clear sky.
Got in the stand in Spencer @ 6:45 a.m.
8:15 a.m. Saw 1 deer about 300 yds away running through a field I can barely see through the woods at my 10 o'clock. Saw nothing else. Very quiet, not much movement at all.
The big buck has been seen twice in the last two days beside the corfield thats still up beside my uncles property. Both times were around 10:00 p.m. A monster of a buck was seen across the road in the cut down soybean field early this morning chasing a doe around. I was told this deer has a massive rack and the size of a horse. I'd really like to see this one in my sights come this weekend.

November 9th (After daylight savings time change)
Weather: Wind South/Southwest, 0-5 mph, Upper 40's, Clear sky. Light Fog.
Got in the stand in Spencer @ 6:50 a.m.
7:15 a.m. Had 1 medium size doe walk into the new path and over to a vine thats hanging from a tree about 10 feet from the rubbed up tree. This vine splits 3 feet above the ground and has two coils in it about a foot round then goes to the ground. This doe was rubbing its head and licking this vine for 10 minutes, then walked over to the rub on the tree and started checking it out. She turns and walks within 7 yds of me in the 2 o'clock shooting lane giving me a perfect broadside shot op but she was too small. She walked right under the stand then went out in the woods to the east about 300 yds and made a complete circle to the south that took her 1-1/2 hrs to make it back within 25 yds of the stand. It could see her at different times throughout her whole trip. She would bolt and run about 30 yds at a time then pick around. I was really hoping she was going to lure a big buck in the way she was acting. 8:45 a.m. She went into the thick brush behind me for about 30 minutes then came back out then went back in. I got out of the stand at 11:30 a.m. Didn't see anything else.

November 16th (After daylight savings time change) Weather: Wind SW, W, SE Swirling 5 - 10 mph, Low 50's, rain and more rain. Running late this morning. 6:50 a.m. Got out of the truck, looked across the road and saw a big doe running across the cut soybean field and into the standing cornfield. Running east to west. 7:10 a.m. I just got around the last bend before the path in the woods becomes a straight shot to the cornfield and low and behold two doe are waiting for me at the stand. I was about 90 yds from the stand when I noticed movement around the stand. At that same instance one of them looks my direction as if their saying.....Where the hell you been? We beat you here this morning. Dang! 10 - 15 minutes can make all the difference in the outcome. I just stood there as they walked out in the cornfield.....again. Waited a few minutes until they were out of sight then got to the stand at 7:30 a.m. Didn't see anything else the rest of the day. This rain has got to end!

I disappointed myself. I got so caught up in deer hunting the past two weeks I didn't take any notes while I was out, plus the fact that mamaw past away November 4th and Debbie's (my wife) grandpa past away thanksgiving morning, I've just had too much on my mind. I made mental notes but day after day it was hard to recollect exact times, wind direction and deer seen on particular days. So far I've seen 3 button bucks, one 4 point, two different 6 points, one 8 point, one big bodied big racked buck I couldn't tell how many points it had. These were all at the Spencer stand. The Layfayette stand I've hunted out of twice of a morning. Saw 4 doe walk from the thicket on the knoll down to the pond for water, pick around in the clover then back in the thicket.
Nov 27th & 29th. Dad has seen the big buck I saw earlier this year. It's gotta be the one that survived from last year from his description. Seen both morning and evening on the 27th with a big doe. Seen once in the evening on the 29th with 4 big doe. This deer is massive in size and rack. Estimated weight 250 lbs +. 10 points are confirmed with possible small protrusions. 10" - 12" tines with a spread of 24" to 30". This is by far a buck of a lifetime. I've got to figure out a way to get him closer to the stand. Dad says you could put two 10 gallon hats on this deers rack and they wouldn't touch each other.
Nov 29th morning hunt. Wind out of the SE @ 5-10 mph 45 degrees, partly cloudy. Got in the stand in Lafayette at 6:30 a.m.
7:30 a.m. Had 3 doe walk out of thicket at back of property and walk to within 10 yds of me. 2 medium and one large doe. I was going to take the large doe, but kept holding out for massive rack to come out behind them. They walked off to the pond and eventually back into the thicket on the knoll. I swear I kept hearing grunting noises behind the fence row directly in front of me but never saw anything.
9:25 a.m. Noticed a decent size doe walking along the north side of the pond then made her way all the way up to the houses. It looked as if she probably crossed the road then went into the pine forest. I couldn't tell for sure, it was too far away.
I'm thinking of abandoning the stand and getting in the fence row to get a better look behind it. The wind has to be right though.
