messed around for a little while today. i believe i'm on my way to my first arrowhead . used a antler to knock a small piece off of this i got a this piece out of it and i could see potential in it: i just could picture the head in my mind and i got this much of it done before i had to run to visit Mom and Dad for Easter. a little more time and i think this one will actually turn out .the hard parts gonna be getting them to weigh the 125 gr. that i am going to practice with.

its still got a ways to go but i was a bit impressed myself lol. i need some smaller tools now to do the finish work on it and downsize it some more but it may just work out . didint take a bunch of time unless i just got lucky and i could see getting the hang of it pretty quickly. its some sharp stuff , dont look like it but it sure has an edge . gloves and some glasses are a must.

Hi folks, I'm new to this site. Just got invited by ncboman. Freedomrules, nice start. Pretty good looking piece of mahogany obsidian there. I've been knappin a little over a year now and will give you a good piece of advice that someone gave me when I started. Keep some of your first points. Put them away and then pull them out from time to time, like a year from now, and see how much progress you've made. It'll shock you - at least it does me. If I can be of any help to anyone out there getting started knapping I'd be happy to. I'm no expert, just someone who's been doing it a little while. here's some points I did about nine or ten months ago. and these are from 'bout 6 months ago

Thanks for the welcome. Those points are still a little thicker than I'd prefer, but they were OK. I had a SWEET little point out of some unknown chert that I BROKE while notching yesterday. It was about 95% done. A real heartbreaker!!!! I managed to save a little "jewel point" out of it anyway. I'll be happy to help as much as I can.
