In years past it wasn't much of an issue as I had a spot that was in a county in which bow hunting was allowed during the gun season and wouldn't want to give up 2 weekends of bow hunting. And usually there was good movement during those times.
But that area has been developed now and I'm mostly hunting public land so if I don't pick up the gun I give up 2 weekends. I just can't seem to get myself to do it. These public lands have an abudance of deer, it's not like you can't harvest all you need with a bow.
Do you guys ever struggle with this sort of thing?

not really, i just love to hunt period and once the guns come out, it is very difficult to get a draw on an arrow without getting busted, so bang it is. no way could i sit out a few weeks , that would kill me. i usually see something very nice before gun season and if i hadnt got it yet , i wouldn't be able to take not hunting, thinking he is walking under my stand . welcome BF.

As I recall you have a seperate season and seperate permit for gun in Illinois. I hung around and watched the gun hunt one year so I could continue bowhunting after the event.
If I lived there I'd have no problem gun hunting unless I went to one of the bowhunting only areas and even then I doubt I'd pass on the gun permit deer.

Thing is that we're only allowed 2 bucks combined here. And I definitely want to save one for the a late season park that I enjoy hunting. We'll see I have till the 29th to decide. I still have some opportunity in archery only counties that I could hunt during the gun seasons. Plus I can scout the archery only parks during the gun season so we'll see.
