I was sitting at my in-laws after dinner this afternoon and happened to glance down at my watch. I was WAY late. I had a 45 minute drive to the property I hunt and it was already 3:00 pm. I decided to grab the MLr and the ground blind and try a spot I've been wanting to hunt for a while that probably wouldn't be ideal for the bow. Turns out that I probably should've grabbed the bow. I got the blind setup and the leaves pushed out of the way so I could move without making a ton of noise, unzipped the windows and sat down for a second when I hear crunch, crunch of deer feet on leaves. 6 does and 1 bb trot by at 15 yards. If they would've kept moving I probably would've let them go, but they stopped and browsed for a few minutes and temptation was to much. I picked the biggest doe and waited for the right shot. I squeezed it off and watched her fall at 50 yards. I was in the ground blind all of 5 minutes. LOL I'd rather be lucky than good any day. ;D
The 295 power belt did a number on her. The shot was perfect right behind the shoulder (it helped that she was at 25 yards lol) taking out lungs and turning the top of the heart to mush. It smashed a rib on the offside, but I have yet to find a break in the skin on the exit side. I'll know more tomorrow when I skin her out. The blood trail was not the best, with only one hole, and the heart not pumping. I saw her fall though so recovery wasn't a problem.
This is the first deer I've ever killed with a Mlr and the first deer I've killed with a gun since buying my bow 5 years ago. In a way I feel like I cheated. Oh well, It's back strap on the grill tomorrow. I think she'll weigh 120# dressed, maybe more? Here's a pic. I'll try to get a pic of my blind set up tomorrow.
