I hit the woods this morning with Hatracked's son Michael. We were a little late and forgot the camera from Hat's house. I had mine in the truck so we struck out with it and 5 minitues into out walk the tripod broke and camera fell off. I left the tripod in the pasture and continued on.
After we set up and gave a few soft calls, a late hatch two year old fly down in the pasture. He was about 60 yards away and started gobbling good. The camera was still on the ground and we could not get him on film. He came into the decoys once, about 20 yards and kept gobbling. We didn't shoot him because we wanted tyo get it on film. We'll be back to see if we can get him close one more time.

My my now the kid is passing up turkey. LOL Sounds like you had a good time hope it pans out tomorrow. I got stuff by a ditch on the 500. I had 6-7 toms firing at every note 150 yards out and my client didnt want to hunt "in " the woods. He likes the food plots I guess. I prefer turkey however I can roast em personally

Well, well, well... This morning was supposed to be rainy so I didn't make any definate plans to hunt this morning. I got up at 5 just to check, the weather was fine so at 530 I was pounding on my brother-in-laws door. He had never been turkey hunting before so I figured we would give it a shot...plus I didn't want to beat on anyone elses doors unexpectedly at 530 in the morning. We set up and heard 5 toms on the roost sounding off first thing. A flooded river bottom kept the toms hung up. Heading back to the truck I spotted the turkey Michael and I called in yesterday. We got some thick brush on the turkeys and slipped within 100 yards. I started calling and the hens and tom came to about 40 yards. The hens started pulling the tom back away so I told him to shoot.
BOOM...missed him at 45 yards...BOOM missed him at 40 yards...BOOM missed him again at 40 yards. After the third shot the tom finally decided to run. I told him not to shoot anymore. Not sure what happened but we headed for some breakfast.
After breakfast we spotted four jakes on our property. I told him we would try to kill one with the bow and get it on video. The high wind allowed us to slip within 60 yards of the jakes. I got the camera set up and started calling. The jakes came to about 25 yards, and you guessed it...missed the first one at 25 yards. The second one walks in the opening...missed him at 25 yards. They finally start to walk off. Some sharp cutts get them to stop again..missd again with the last arrow in his quiver at 40 yards. I know the last shot was tough but the first two should have been dead turkeys. Looks like I'm gonna have to go gunning myself tomorrow.
Hat you still coming home tomorrow? I need someone who can shoot!

After all day hunting and missing, my brother-in-law and I decided to give it one more try this afternoon. It was windy and hot. We set up on the edge of a field with a carry-lite hen 15 yards in front. I grabbed my widow maker and called for about five minitues pretty hard. After getting the camera set up and covered with 3-D leafy I tiled my head back and fell asleep. My brother-in-law tapped my leg about 5 minitues later and there were 6 turkeys racing across the field to the decoy. I turned the camera on but the wind blew the material over the lense and was tangled in the briars , so I couldn't move it. The first two were toms and the others jakes. I told him to get the toms heads together and double. At the first shot...you guessed it, he missed again at 15 yards. The turkeys continued trying to rape my decoy and a few profane words of encouragement got Jason back on a bird. He killed two of the jakes, but after all that shooting I'm just glad he killed something. It was his first day of hunting and he shot NINE different times. I think he's hooked but right now he needs to practice shooting and I got to run and get some shells so I can hunt tomorrow.

First day of the season I can say I DIDNT HEAR A TOM GOBBLE ! I did make the trip back home and Im ready to do some hunting. I got to go back Tueday after the am hunt for a hearing at the courthouse. They are leveling charges against the guy from Cinnimon Ridge Hunting Club ( dont book with these guys !!!!) who tore our stands down and corned the 500 . Sorry SOB dumped three turkey carcasses at our gate the other morning. That guy is a real piece of crap. I hope the Bamberg cty Magistrate lays it to him.
Ill be back Wednesday early afternoon then gone again Friday after the am hunt. Then its Monday and Tuesday hunting up here and were closed . I'll be glad when this is over to tell you the truth I am flat burnt out. very short tempered , and ready to put the smackdown on a tom myself. Looking forward to the am hunt.
