When down to Williamsburg county Friday afternoon to roost some birds. We spotted a Tom strutting for 3 hens in a field, and anouther Tom and 4 jakes with 2 hens in anouther field.Bingo the prospects were lookin pretty good.We arrived at the field a little late the next morning due to a spicy dinner. As we eased through the woods to get close to the corner they were roosted in the old boy lets out a nice deep gobble.By the time we reached the edge of the field he had let us have 3 more good ones.Just as we got settled in the first hen hit the ground.Once she lit,I hear the others pitch off the limb and I give them a fly-down cackle, followed by some excited yelps, and he flies out between my deke and one of the hens and the other two hens were off to the left about 20 yrds.He instantly goes int full strut,he landed at about40yrds and now he was moving in steady in a half strut. The other 2 hens run over to join in.When they all get to my deke he busts back into full strut,I tell my buddy to shoot him when his head comes up and I give him a few sharp cuts on my strut buster. When he hears the cuts he instsntly gobbled and my buddy cut him off with a load of #5's.The Tom sported a nice 2 finger wide 11" beard and a set of dagger sharp 1.5" spurs.Super hunt and my buddy was one happy camper, his first boss.At 6:300 we were on the way to the truck to check the other Tom,but he was in the field struttin 30yrds from the road in the only field in the whole area that we couldn't hunt. But it was ok my buddy couldn't sit still anyway he was pumped.
