Bitten twice now by Mossbergs ! Last year I pulled the hammer on a double tom opportunity and the shell failed to go off. This afternoon I squeezed the trigger on another gobbler at 30 yards and heard a familiar click with no boom. I dont know exactly what it is with these guns but they are known for not firing and damn it I didnt listen. Cost me a nice tom today.

Please do comment . Yesterday was the fifth or sixth time since they came out with the 835 that i have been present when someone pulled the trigger on one of those guns and it didnt go off. Seems to me I read somewhere its a weak spring problem in the firing pin mechanism . One of my clients a couple seasons back had to take his to the gun shop for a new spring of some sort during his hunt. He used my shotgun until the last day . The guns owner SCturkeyhuntr said it misfired on him recently as well.
I dont know it just seems to me that when you pull the trigger on a loaded gun it should go boom everytime..LOL

I've packed an 835 to the spring woods since 94' and never had any problems like you hear about. I had one of the rattling SOB's until last year when I bought a new, ported model that doesn't have that problem. But I never once had mine jam or misfire.
I do have a buddy that had one that missfired a time or two. When we looked at the primer it had a good impression on it that I felt should have went off. We put the shell in another gun and the shell did not fire. We chalked it up as bad ammo.
Did you try putting the shell in another gun? If you didn't and still have it I would just to see if it will fire for you.

It wasn't the shell I don't think there was even a dent on the primer. I had the problem once before and took it to a gun shop to get it repaired but the all knowing gunsmith insisted there was nothing wrong...I love it when you pay someone to do something and they don't do it. It already cost me a tom the second day of season. It will be taken back to the shop, a different shop, to get fixed ASAP.

Is it possible that the slide (pump) was not all the way forward? I did have this happen when goose hunting once. 3 shell in gun, safety off, pull the trigger and nothing. Nothing struck the primer until I moved the pump forward. I thought it was, but wasn't.

It wasnt ammo malfunction with 100 % certainty.
The pump was closed
The firing pin never hit the primer , although it did try to.
