Well Dave, I don't know when their done, but my son told me yesterday that he and a classmate had to cruise timber for their forestry class and he chose the property where we hunt. He and his classmate went there and they found some turkey tracks and with these turkey tracks were little turkey tracks, and a bunch of them. So I guess some of the young have started hatching! I don't know what kind of affect this has on the gobblers.

They aren't completely done yet but they most certainly have slowwed down, that is for sure. places i have heard tons of gobbles at daybreak are now down to just 1 or 2 from the roost. riding around the fields are showing hens but no toms. i had one strutting 100 yards out today , when i called it just folded up and left town, i knew i shoulda stalked it . pressure this year was maybe 4 times more than previous years i have been out. i never had any problems with spots before but this year found many trucks parked in the places where i choose. saturdays are really bad , last week i had to go to 4 spots before having one to myself, sure glad i know the place so well. a lot of western maryland hunters have been down, because the numbers of birds are down in the mountains from what i hear anyway. Gonna try and get my nephew out in the morning, hope we can find some birds, he will get a kick outta one gobbling i just know it

thats a good question Dave, a real smart arse like me might say, it's when your gobbler has a load of #5's placed neatly in his brain pan, but i wont say that, LOL without giving a long draw out answer to you reguarding the phases of the breeding cycle, gobblers will gobble for a very long time, depending on were you live, i may hear birds gobbling well into june, and if a Tom is still gobbling, far as i'm concerned, he's still vonerable to come to the call, no matter what a hens stage of cycle is at, your most mature hen will set first, then all others fall in line, and there are so many variables involved, on wether a hens clutch makes it or not, if she has a nest destroyed, she will recycle again, and even a thrird clutch if need be, all the while if hens need to be breed, toms are more then willing, we all know what pressure can do to birds, and because an area has no gobbling, dosen't mean Tom's aren't present, thats one reason hunting higher presure areas, i may do more walking and listening, then calling, knowing when to call, and what call to use, is better then being a world champion caller, in other words woodsmanship and just listening for flyups, or hen talk, can be 10 fold more productive, then trying to jerk a gobble out of a bird, that has heard every call man can make, i use this method, especially durring roosting outings, gobblers just plain catch on to that regiment after a while, so, bottom line is this, you can kill a gobbler at an time durring the sping season, by useing your eyes and ears, ands alot less calling, give it a try buddy !!!

Season has been over down here for almost 20 days and there are still some birds doing the spring thing. I was riding around before work this morning and saw this big guy out in the field. He was fanned out away from me at first and I gave a few yelps on the diaphram he gobbled and spun around to look. This bird has been begging for someone to kill him all season and the guys that hunt the property swear they cant get him to gobble??? They should be shutting down pretty soon around here though.

Todd, a N.Y. turkey license is $85 bucks total, $60 bucks for a nonres hunting lic, and $35 bucks for 4 tags, 2 spring and 2 fall, there are NO 5 day license except for fishing, N.Y. has the cheapest Non resident spring gobbler Tags in all the u.s. it also ranks in the top 10 highest in turkey population also, i think it's actually 8th,
