would anybody be interested in a merriams or osceola hunt in the spring of 2007, that would give us over a year to come up with some options. i know alot of you semi-retired guys are on a fixed income ;D ;D, so we could do a diy or tresspass fee hunt. anyone have any connections or ideas for either? does anyone have preference? let me know and i will start doing some research.

I think Bill C. has been on several of these and may have some hands on info. i may be interested, but turkeys arent a huge priority for me. my budget for hunting should be growing some this year so ya never know. it does depend on costs and work though. spring can be a notoriously busy time for business.

I do still have 1 spot open with my group that will be hunting May 5-7th in Nebraska. If anyone is interested they can email me. I will likely give up the spot to the outfitter on Jan.28th if I can't fill it. I am actually hunting as well, no profit, just tried putting a group of hunters to go that never had hunted Merriams. A bit pricey, but it is a great hunt and the # of birds was unreal in 2005.
If you do your homework, you can find a public land Merriam pretty easy. I took 2 birds in Nebraska last year and drove into South Dakota and harvested a 3rd Merriam on public ground there. Blind hog finds a nut every now and then sort of thing. LOL.
My advice if you are looking for a Osceola hunt is that you book by some time in Oct. 2006. Osceola hunts fill up fast. You will find most all hunts to be 1 bird and quite the price. There are public land hunts available but a lot of them are by application. You definately want to hunt south of Orlando, further the better, for a true Osceola species. The south zone, which is mostly south of Lake Okechobee opens in early march, like the first few days and then around mid-March the next zone opens. I don't know if I'd try a d-i-y hunt in FL or not on public. I would certainly jump at the chance to pay a trespass fee on a ranch with a bird population though. I thought I had one of these hunts lined out for 2006, but it isn't looking like the guy is going to be able to hold up his end.
Hat mentioned Tim Herald and I second the recommendation. Through Tim's outfitter recommendations I completed my slam. He has some very good hunts lined out and if the # of reference requests I get is any indication, Tim places a # of hunters every spring that I'm sure end up happy.
