I took my first turkey on opening day with John Maynard guiding me. The bird weighed a bit over 20 pounds, has 7/8" spurs and an 11 1/2" beard. I'm sure it was a two year old. I was sneaking up a woodline looking for some birds in a strut zone when I saw three toms headed my way. My gun was 50 yards from me and I had to sneak back on my hands and knees to get it. Luckily the birds never saw me and moved to within 15 yards of my location before I dropped the hammer on this tom. He dropped like a rock. Boy was I happy. I had seen several birds in the morning, one tom came in fairly close and looked at my decoys but left. I had a hen practically walk over my legs. I finally took this bird about 9:30 in the morning. John was also guiding an older woman who took a nice mature tom with 1 1/4" spurs about 7 a.m. So two for three this morning. Not a bad start to the 2006 season. I'll put in the official score later when I get accurate measurements.

Thanks guys.I'am having a flying mount made out of it.
John got his Turkey Monday morning. We had three come in around my decoys and I let them walk around to John's decoys so we both might get a shot and he was the only one able to get a shot on the birds. We had a great hunt over the past few days.We didn't hunt on Sunday but picked it back up Monday and Tuesday. We had some close calls on Tuesday but could not close the deal.

I have a spot reserved in my new house(when we get it built)down in the game room along with my other two deer mounts.I want all the kiddies to have something to talk about while they are playing pool. ;D
It was a two year old and looked to be a twin to mine. Not much different. There was a group of two year olds running together that all look the same.John got his second this past week and he said it was just like the others.
