DNR Announces Canada Goose Hunting Dates At Sassafras Natural Resources Management Area
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ANNAPOLIS — The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Maryland Park Service announced today the dates for waterfowl hunting for migratory Canada geese at Sassafras NRMA. As in the past, hunting will be by permit only. The dates for this year’s migratory Canada goose hunts are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays during the week running from November 16 to November 23, and from December 16 to January 27, 2007.
All goose hunting permits will be issued through a lottery drawing. Goose hunting applications must be received at the Tuckahoe State Park by the close of business (4:30 p.m.) on October 20 and permits will be selected by random drawing on October 23 at 1 p.m. Results of the drawing will not be given out over the telephone. To receive an application, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Tuckahoe State Park, 13070 Crouse Mill Road, Queen Anne, MD 21657. Applications can also be downloaded from the DNR website at www.dnr.maryland.gov/publiclands. Only one application per hunter is permitted.
Hunting hours are from half-hour before sunrise to 12 p.m., and hunters will be required to leave the area by 1 p.m. Hunters must hunt from their assigned blind only. Canada geese, snow geese and other waterfowl harvested at Sassafras NRMA will be considered part of the daily and season bag limit. Consult DNR’s 2006-2007 Guide to Hunting and Trapping in Maryland for details. Hunting parties are limited to four hunters maximum.
Driving and parking are permitted in designated areas only where signs are posted. The hunting permit must be displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle. Weather and ground conditions may dictate that hunters will be required to walk or haul gear to the blind. Handcarts and sleds are permissible.
For more information or details, contact Tuckahoe State Park at 410-820-1668 (M-F between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.).
