heres a picture of a nice red boar a friend got. here is his story from another forum with permission to post.weighed on scales at 265 lbs Well, I just got back from Tennessee. I got my boar last night, on my first outing. After lunch, I met up with my guide and discussed where we would be hunting and what weapon I would be using. We mutually agrred the slug gun would be the best option. It was raining pretty good on and off all afternoon. And blood might be hard to find and follow. So I went over to their range and made sure the scope was still dialed in. Then we were off the place my guide called "the hill". Where i come from, that thing is called a mountain. LOL It was roughly 700' from the bottom to the top in elevation. And very steep. He said he knew their was a good group of hogs up their. We started at the bottum and went to the top, then back down, then back up, then started down again. Several times we got glimpses of them. Now, I'm a big guy, and this was certainly taking it's toll on me. We had been on their trail for over four hours. And I was beat. As we were coming down, my guide and I started seeing hogs. He had kept saying, their is a really nice red one with them if we can find him. He then says to me, I think they are right below this ridge. I look over to my left, and their is this red hog looking right at me. I said to him, hey is that him. He said yeah shoot him. My first thought was not right now, he is facing me. I got the gun up, and took the safety off. I was looking in the scope trying to figure out how to shoot him. Then he takes off, cutting right in front of me. Gave me a nice broadsided 10 yard shot. BANG THUMP WHEEEEWHEEEE Man those pigs squeel loud. LOL I ended up shooting a bit high, took out the spine and the artery that runs along it. I was shooting a 12 ga, with the 1 oz barnes expander sabot slugs. Even at ten yards, I did not get a pass through shot. They are some tough critters. It rolled down hill a couple of yards and quickly expired. When we put it on the scale before they skinned it, it weighed in at 265#'s. It doesn't look that big in the pic, but it was in real life. When they were skinning it, they found my slug under the skin on the far side. another nice little souvenier. All in all I had a great hunt. heres the picture img.photobucket.com/albums/v420/jrd1977/TNboar.jpg

I'm sure the dep is referring to Tx. Probably near Lake Palestine.
The Trinity River runs through there and the bottom land is completely different from what one would think Texas should look like. Looks more like La. Some really big woods in that part of the state.

Looks more like La. Some really big woods in that part of the state. Yup, know the area well. Growing up in Galveston county my family spent a lot of time camping through out east Texas. My hunting area is between HWY 7 and 21 south of Palestine along the Neches on Davy Crockett NF land. When I was at Ft Bragg I use to tell people that I could fly them around in a C130 for a few hours and toss them out the door. Unless they were exceptionally expert in plant identification they would not know weather they were in the NC Piedmonts, hills of Georgia and Alabama or east Texas. For the most part the SE United States is pretty similiar from the coast (either) on inland. Thanks for the welcome folks.
