I killed four more hogs Wed. I went to a ranch to check on body conditions and fawn survival. At 2:00 I approached the last remaining water hole on the ranch and at about 200 yards I heard a hog fight. I got out of the truck and went the rest of the way on foot. This water hole is shaped like a deep bowl and it is about thirty feet from the top down to the remaining water and is a steep climb for the hogs. I came over the top and there were six hogs on the far side at about fifty yards.. One was in the water and the others were drinking. I shot one and the others started up the bank I started shooting them as they ran and the third one that I fell and knocked the last one back down the bank giving me one last shot. The remaining two went up and over in a different location and didn’t give me a shot. It didn’t matter though because the gun was empty by that time. These hogs weighed between 180 and 200 lbs and should have been twenty to thirty lbs. heaver. There were no young with them which is not normal, but due to the drought reproduction is poor at this time. I was shooting my mod.700 in .243 cal. Temp. was 104

I don’t, I have an old 35mm.and seldom have it with me. I used to take lots of photos, but got out of the habit. I wish that I had pictures of the hogs. It is rare that I can get shots of more than one or two at the same time. Things just fell in place and they all fell in a 30 yard area.

I kill all that I can. The drought has caused poor reproduction of almost everything. I have noted poor reproduction of deer, turkeys, quail and hogs. I don’t mind if the hogs never had anymore young but I hate to see everything else suffer. I wish that I could try the washing, but we are under water restrictions and no car washing is allowed.
