This one was also a learning experience....
I had gotten to my stand early in the afternoon, about 1:00 pm. The bucks were searching for does. I believe the date was Nov 29. I already had used my one buck tag, but needed some more meat for the freezer. I had been sitting for near 2 hours when the urgent need to empty my bladder hit me. I let 'er fly out of the stand. I'm only telling you this because it is important later in the story. Two more hours pass, and all of a sudden I hear heavy running footsteps I turn my head slightly and I see two deer coming my way. One was this doe and the other was a small buck looking for some lovin'. They headed right underneath my stand. When the doe hit the spot where I had peed she locked 'em up and turned around and stopped just waiting to see what the buck was going to do I guess. She didn't spook from the smell of the pee, but it caused her to stop in her tracks. She was really breathing hard and she was maybe 15 feet from the tree I was in, but I was facing the exact opposite way in order to get a shot. I managed to get turned all the way around.....S L O W L Y. The buck was so focused on the doe he never saw me turn or draw, and neither did the doe as she was concentrating on getting away from this lovesick buck. A lot of people won't take a steep angle shot, but I have had great results, so I let the Hoyt eat. She ran 60 yards and fell over on the other side of the power line right of way that I was hunting.
Another heart shot!
The sweetest part was that it was gun season, and my bro in-law was in a ground blind with his ML'r about 200 yards from my stand over a hill, and he came up empty that day.
