I went out to the north section of ea vaughn twice last week only to find a truck there hunting. thats no problem i ussually dont walk in there if someone else is already in there so i just turned around and left. i noticed the truck was full of shingles taken off a roof obviuosly where they had redone a roof. never really thought anything about it just noticed them. today i went out there at 10 am to get a late hunt in and just scope the fields and see if i could pull off a stalk. went out and saw nothing but when i returned to my truck i notice something in the corner of the primitive camping area... friggin fresh tracks from a truck and a pile of shingles . this pissed me off so bad i could have spit fire. how could you go hunt a prestine place like that place is and then trash it when you are done. well i had to do something so i called the dnr police and reported exactly what i knew about the truck and the illegal dumping. of coarse they asked me if i had looked at the tags and being 5 am when i went in there and turned around the 2 days i was braindead and really never expected to check the tags. i did however remember exactly what the truck looked like ... late model 1985 or so ford blue with a wooden stake type extensions on top otf the bed so he could haul more trash i reported all i knew about it to them. now granted i would normally never do much other than be disgusted but scum like that simply makes me sick . i am glad to have made the call and hope they at least get a clue as to who did it . i doubt without catching him red handed anything could be done. i will go next week and check in the mornings just to see if it is there and get a tag number. accusations that he did it is all it is but its simply more than a coincidence , i know he made the dump there. at the entrance is a sign NO DUMPING OR THIS PLACE WILL BE SHUT DOWN. how could someone hunt there all week and then dump crap on the ground to save a few bucks at the dump simply disgusting.

Puts legitimate roofers in a bad light also. I think you can find out (catch) the guy if you want to. He's probably idiot enough to go right back there hunting anyway.
New roofs stand out to me. It's likely from the local area and I'd just look around for new roofs. I'd also snag a couple of the dumped shingles to possibly match with leftover scraps if I find what I think the place. You may get lucky and find scraps of the new shingles in the pile. THAT would key me right in.
Did he dump just one load or several? A pickup can't carry an entire job usually. Either there's more or it was a small job.
Sounds like you may be lookin for a cheap roofer for your house in a while. You could easily pull off the razz of pulling into a yard and inquiring about who did the roof (while you look for left behind scraps on the ground, in cracks). You'll easily get a name and phone number.
The Md DNR doesn't mess around and I'm sure if you came up with a solid lead, those shingles will be cleaned right up. ;D
It being my business and also my distaste for public land dumping makes me mad also. I hope they catch the guy and make him personally haul em outta there.

it was a pickup load pile, only 1 that i could see. i didnt want to mess around over there before calling. i figured they may want to take pictures but you could see that it was done that morning , or appeared that way, you could still see the fresh tracks through the damp grass. i'll take some pictures and post them up. i never thought about cutoffs from the new shingles , good idea. i do believe its a local guy, ive seen the truck parked near the entrance by the main road in the evenings when i've been to the other section looking for birds to roost earlier in the season. i'll be keeping on this , even if i see it during deer season around i'll write down the tag #. the office i called said an officer will most likely contact me since i called the regional office. i'll pass along the new shingle idea . i'll be looking around for a fresh roof somewhere since most of the houses are older around there. i just cant imagine why after hunting there someone would do that. shingles kinda hang around for quite a spell too, its gonna piss me off every time i go out there now .

guys have been busted from receipts left in the trash around here. ;D
You may be looking at a doityourselfer also. I wouldn't think a real roofing company would take such risks.

You beat me to it. I suspect it was some guy doing his tool shed.

The thing that indicates he may be doing more than his own is the wooden racks on the truck. Rick, were the shingles piled over the top of the bed? Did it (the rack) look used regularly or fresh made? There may be piles at other parking spots or the backside of fields around the area also, anywhere a guy can get a heavy loaded pickup without getting stuck.

they were heaped up pretty good, the middle of the pile was to the top of the sides, the wooden sides were old. it had no name of any sorts on the truck and i wish now i had glanced at the tags , just to see if it was md or va, this is very close to the va line down that way. i know one thing they screwed up pretty good when i got to see the truck with the shingles and then the pile on the ground , they have no idea how persistent i can be when i want ;D i expected a local dnr guy to call me yesterday but they didnt . i hope they went out and got pictures of the tire tracks since its kinda raining some here this morning. i know i will recognize the truck thats for sure.

im a very sick person for thinking the way i do. at least you're smart enough not to post anything on the internet you don't want read in court. something to consider when waging a personal war on an individual; who has the most to lose? Rick, you don't have to be so persistant as focused on the goal, which is only to ID the guy for DNR... for instance, I don't know how it is up there but I can go to the building supplys here and find out where shingles have been delivered recently, what kind, and for who. There can't be but so many suppliers on the shore. I'd only go to this extreme if the guy denied doing it. I'm sure DNR can and would do the same if needed. Believe me, if he is made to hand load and haul off the debris to a landfill, he will be properly deterred from this type activity. oh, it isn't just a few bucks to dump at a landfill. My typical dumptruck load runs 400 to 500 to dump. I expect his truck had at least $200 worth in it.

there is absolutley no excuse for littering, it should be punishable by manditory community service, (picking up litter along the roads), along with a hefty fine. i will keep my eye's open around snowhill for that truck, if he lives around here, i will go over vaughn, and load all that shit back up in my own truck, and then redeposit it on his f'n front lawn!!
i need to calm down, i gonna blow a vein or something.

Well heres an update: talked to the local nr police today and he asked me the description of the truck. when i gave him everything i knew about it , he knew exactly who it belongs to. says he has had run in with him before out at vaughn. seems he thinks its his little playground out there from what i understand. the officer is going to go take pictures of his truck and we'll meet so i can make a pos id or not. hes pretty sure it is one in the same because our descriptions match exactly. the bad part is he is going to have to sorta trick him into confessing because everything is basically here-say since i never saw him actually dump them. hopefully he plays hardball and threatens arrest and at the least gets the guy to go clean them up.

You saw the shingles on the truck, then saw them on the ground. Pretty conclusive to me.
If you could find that new roof he put on, the only way he could deny it is with a landfill receipt.
