Pesticides May Have Deformed Three Babies The State Agriculture Department says three women who gave birth to deformed babies were exposed to illegally high amounts of pesticide while they worked picking tomatoes in Eastern North Carolina. Ag-Mart, the company that hired them, says the data is wrong because state officials misinterpreted its records. The state has been investigating Ag-Mart for a year and has charged the company with 369 violations of the state pesticide law. A hearing is scheduled for later this month. The News and Observer reported Sunday that two of the women were illegally exposed to pesticides more than 20 times while working in Ag-Mart fields, while the third woman was exposed four times.
