Opener in Ohio.Oct.1st
No deer seen in the morning.Afternoon hunt:I got out a little later than I wanted but it was hot and I had a basketball game to come from.Got into the small patch of woods around 5:45 and two small does were already eating on the acorns that had fallen. They run off after staring at me for 5 minutes.I get set-up and deer start filtering into the woods by 6:15.I thought this was a good set-up for a buck to come into, but about the time it was for him to step out and mingle, someone on a four wheeler heads toward the fence line and the deer are gone before they even get in sight.By the time the woods settle back down it is dark.I saw three does try to sneak back into the far side of the woods but they disappear.A total of 9 deer seen.

10/22/05-Saturday
Went to Ohio Saturday.Saturday morning it was rainy and cool.I saw a small eight pointer and three does. All out of range.Saturday evening we went to a different farm and I put up a stand down in a creek bottom on the field edge where the woods start to follow the creek around.I sat in this stand for the evening hunt and by 5:00 I had a freaky racked six pointer running four does around my stand. All the does came right in front of my stand but the buck layed back and watched their every move.He was a regular four on one side and a big spike on the other with a small point coming off it.Looked really funky. They moved off and I sat there till almost dark when another freaky racked two poiner came up along the creek and went into the woods right behind my stand. He had two on one side and nothing on the other. What is weird is we haven't been seeing these weird racks in the past.I don't what kind of genetics we have running around there now.I'am excited about this new stand location even though I didn't see anything of size out of the stand,I think I'am on a good travel corridor and a place where the creek forces them to funnel down into where the woods start and my stand is located.
Three bucks in one day is good for me.Sometimes I go for days without seeing any bucks.

Took off work to go with my uncle.Saw several deer in the am hunt as I was hunting in the little piece of woods again with acorns all around. Had a small fawn bed down 20 yards from my tree while mommy was up feeding.I finally had to come down out of my stand around 11:30 and bust the deer out.It surprised me how many deer were still on their feet at 11:30 in the morning.I saw a couple of small bucks and does.A total of 12 deer seen that morning.
In the evening hunt I was back at my other stand that is beside the creek.I witnessed a seven pointer chasing does around in the field.I also saw a small eight pointer and a six pointer eating acorns.I have yet to sit in this stand without seeing a buck. That is a good thing!Atotal of six deer seen.

Went to a new farm in the am.I set-up with my climber on a fenceline in the woods with a small creek below me.Only one doe seen and she came running right under my stand.I waited for whatever got her to moving but nothing came on the trail behind her.I just thought for sure the big boy was following behind,no such luck. One deer seen.
The evening hunt puts me back in my favorite evening spot right beside the creek.I can't give up this spot.I have yet to go and not see a buck from this stand. The evening goes slow with no sightings for the first couple of hours.I believe the higher temps put a slow down on deer movement. The daytime temps were in the 60's. saw three does come out and walk up the field edge on the other little strip field next to the one I'am watching. They work their way up to the woods on the small hill that runs up in front of me.This is where the Oaks are and I have seen several deer getting their evening snack from.About 30 minutes later I catch a glimpse of a nice buck coming out where the does entered the woods. Now I definately don't need binos to tell he is a good one,but I pull them up to check and he is a nice typical eight pointer. At this point he has his head down eating and then he proceeds to make a scrape. At this time I'am reaching for my camcorder to tape him and dang it the switch got turned on somehow and the battery light is flashing.I only got three seconds of this deer before the battery gave out.I give up on the camcorder and try to get the bucks attention.I use my grunter and only get a glance and he goes back to working his scrape,so I pull out the Primos can and tip it about three times.Ah Ha I finally have his attention and he is walking down the field edge he is in to get to the crossing that the deer use to get over into my field. He is coming like he is on a string. He doesn't stop until he gets to where the mowed field stops and the unmowed weed edge starts. The angle is bad so I wait and see if he turns. At this point he is about 22 yards. He takes a few more steps and ends up on the road that takes you between fields and puts him at 18 yards from my position. The angle is steep and I hit a little back and right under the spine with my exit wound below the other side ribcage.I believe with my angle I get both lungs and the deer only runs 15 yards and falls over.I here the air coming from the entry wound and it is over.Buck Down.No tracking on this guy.I wait and watch him from my stand...no movement.I get down and look for my arrow.Good Red blood with a complete pass-thru.I go get my uncle and he is almost as excited as me...almost!I proceed to take care of business and drag him over where we can load him in the truck when my uncle comes back with it.Four deer seen total with one down.It was a great hunt and I was glad my uncle was there to share in the experience.I can't wait until I can do the same for my uncle.
